Post-cattery stay advice needed pls

We get back from holiday next week and DCat will have spent 2 weeks in a cattery. She is a stray who decided to come and live with us at the end of April, so she hasn't been with us long and this will have been her first stay in a cattery.
It all appears to be going well at the cattery (we get regular updates), but I was thinking about our return.

I'm prepared for her to maybe reject us for a few days...anything else I should be aware of? She normally has access to outside but I suppose I should keep her in for a few days? Is she likely to remember her territory, does she risk getting lost?

I don't have much experience with cats and would appreciate any advice. Thanks a lot!

Such a cutie. Love the blanket!

I had only adopted mine in the beginning of May a few years ago but had a week holiday booked August. She was so pleased to see me she ran in her -usually hated- carrier to come home! Hopefully yours will be the same, plenty of treats and cuddles, she will know where she is.

That's reassuring to hear, thanks!

I'd be inclined to keep her in for a couple of days on your return, especially as she hasn't been with you very long

Some owners report their cats being a bit huffy and “off” with them after a cattery stay but that was never the case with mine.
She was always thrilled to see me and be home. (A thorough cat-exploration of your house or flat will probably take place, to re-scent and “check” everything.)

GenialHarryGr0ut · 23/08/2022 17:06

Depends entirely on the cat - we had one who would be thrilled to see us and extra loving and clingy whereas the other one would sulk and ignore us for about 48 hours.

Fluffycloudland77 · 23/08/2022 17:16

You might have to wear her in a sling for a few days or you might get full on flat cat ears, back turned to you, “I can’t hear you unless your serving roast chicken” deafness.

We used to let ours out to check his patch.

My girl is pissed off; my boy is clingy (which I don't mind one bit as I miss them so much) and rolls around on the carpet, scent-marking everything to celebrate his return.

Pixiedust1234 · 23/08/2022 17:47

Since she's new to you I would keep her in for a couple of days and see how she is, esp regarding eating, drinking and pooping.

My kitty used to drink loads of water on her return, despite never drinking it usually, which we think was stress related.

Lovely picture 😍

Toddlerteaplease · 23/08/2022 22:57

Mine have such a good time, that they are not happy to see me and will not come out of their 'castle'
All is forgiven by the time we've got home though.

Roozkitty · 24/08/2022 19:05

Thanks all. We'll have to wait and see how she reacts. I suspect she may not want to leave - she has TV and aircon in the cattery 😉

My parents cats used to poop on the bed when they got back from holiday as a form of dirty protest, so keep an eye on them...!

Dcat was fine after a few dreamies. Turns out she likes cat prison because they feed her "nice" food aka not the super healthy older cat food we feed her

Roozkitty · 29/08/2022 20:18

Update: we picked up DCat from cattery this morning. She knew exactly where she was when we got home and raced first to her food bowl, chowed down a bowlful of kibble, and then stood by the back door wanting to be let out. We let her out for a bit, under supervision. She's purring and miauwing a lot and appears to be happy, so all's good 😀

She sounds pleased to see you all!

Antarcticant · 29/08/2022 21:10

There's no place like home!😸

Firty · 29/08/2022 21:30

Cat memory is better than human memory, she’ll recognise her house and garden no problem.

She might bring you gifts of dead mice etc for a while, if so this is her saying thank you for rescuing her from the cattery.

WhatsitWiggle · 29/08/2022 21:36

Aww that's good. The first time adopted Dcat went to a holiday cattery, she miaowed non stop for 24 hours after we picked her up. We decided it was pleasure at being home. Now, 3 years later, she's far more likely to grab some food and head straight out the cat flap!
