Flea treatment recommendations

It seems like a bumper year for fleas this year. I need to treat both my cats and also the house. The fipronil based spot ons are just not working. Does anyone have any recommendations of a spot on that works at the moment please? I need one I can buy without a trip to the vets.

Also, what's best to use on the house? I was thinking indorex. Never used it before, will it upset my sons asthma?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Watching as I have also found the ones with filronil not touching them. I had to give in and go to the vet with the cat and the dog which cost a small fortune..
however even those only last a couple of weeks and they’re being attacked again .
Ive tried flea combing the cat multiple times a day and the dog has been having a cool bath and using a hair conditioner on him and flea coming a few times a week (like the old fashioned but combing method) it seems to be the only way of keeping some time of control on them..

Over the counter ones do not work anymore so you really need to speak to the vet. In some areas certain vet-only treatments don't work either but they will know which one(s) still work. If they have yearly checkups 6ou should be able to call them for a prescription if not then the vet needs to check/weigh them first.

Sorry, I know its not what you asked for but you would be wasting your money.

I have found that the vets seem to sell me spot ons with the same active ingredients as I can buy in the shops, which also don't seem to work! I can buy advocate, advantage and front line plus from my local jolleys but they don't seem to be effective at all.

Perhaps I will follow your example @Poppiesway1 and get the nitty gritty comb out. My cats are extremely averse to being wet though, won't the fleas just ping around?

I get stronghold plus from the vet

Advantage is the only OTC which works (though apparently it's stopped working as well in some areas).

Indorex is exactly what you need for the house. Just make sure to follow the instructions.

You have to be quick with the combing on the cats.. I have a piece of kitchen towel ready to fold over the comb and trap them with.. I then squash over the paper to kill them.. I will only get a few minutes of combing them before mine have had enough and turn on me 😝
hence I use a bit of conditioner on the dog when I comb him as this traps the fleas as I comb him out, ( he’s a terrier so hair is not too easy to brush though with out the conditioner) and I’m also not stripping his coat of oils.. he smells lovely too afterwards.
