Sol passed away last night :(

My beautiful cat, Sol, was put to sleep last night. 13 years old, he had developed pancreatitus, and after several vet visits, it was clear he wasn't getting better. Not eating at all, not interested in doing anything.

We arranged for a vet to come last night, and with all my children (adult) there, he was laid to rest.

I miss him so much. I have 2 more cats, and they are lovely, but Sol was my companion cat. He'd come running like a little puppy if I called his name. He slept in my room, and was so, so affectionate and sweet.

I feel so guilty that I left it too late for him. I feel so guilty that I let them take his body away to be cremated. I wish so much that I had kept him, even though I know it was no longer him.

Anyway, he was an utter darling, and my heart is broken. And I just wanted some other people to know about him.

Two pictures, one from when he was little, the other was taken yesterday.

Hello. I feel your pain, here in bed, with my recently lost cat's blanket on my bed.

I'm so sorry to hear your news. He looked so sweet in the first photo. And yes, not happy in the second. The thing to remember is the life he lived, not the end bit where he was in pain.

If you feel like it, can you tell any more stories of him? I too had a loving little boy cat, an old one who loved me best. Then I had a young lithe little boy cat who used to hide by the tree and then run so fast to me when I opened the door. I'd love to hear about your cat's life xxxx

I'm so sorry for your loss - it really does hurt an insane amount.

Sol would, as I mentioned in a previous post, bite my elbows to wake me up - not hard, just enough to say - get up :)

One time a few years back, he had some medicine to take via a syringe - he loved that medicine, and I have a video of him trying to get the syringe into his mouth before I'd even got the medicine in it.

Whenever you'd put cream on your hands, he would make it his mission to clean it right off again, by trying to lick your hands.

I love him - many more stories about him, but what about your cat? Tell me about him/her.

I love a licky cat. He sounds great. The syringe!!!

My first cat was given to me when he was about nine. He was hand shy and not for laps. He used to like the bathroom and drinking from the tap. But he'd get a wet head that needed drying, so I'd pick him up and cuddle him and dry his little head, kiss on the head and put him down and two hands all the way over his body, including tail, to steady him as arthritis.

That is how he learnt to tolerate cuddles. And I remember the day he asked for his first cuddle by sitting close, yowling and patting me to come on my legs. I tessed him by saying no, if you want to come on, come yourself! But in the end I picked him.

His last five years were spent being a baby, following, being carried, being on shoulders. I loved him so much. He was a short haired British Blue and honestly the most beautiful cat with fur as soft as clouds and such a beautiful face. I'd stroke his face and he had to be able to lick me in his turn. I had to hold still so he could lick me or his ears would go back.

I measured out his last months and days, attuned to everything. I let it go to the wire after the very told me it was time because he was still running for food. Two months later his breathing went and it was time then.

Your little boy sounds adorable. It must have been so satisfying to get those cuddles from him. Sol would do the same with licks. I'd stroke him and then he'd pull back and have to lick my hand in return x

It's so precious to have had that relationship isnt it.

So sorry Op it’s bloody hard but as others have written you did the kindest act for your gorgeous boy. He had a wonderful, happy life, cared for and spoiled. It takes time, our girl left us in July 2020 after 19 years and only now can I talk about her without crying. Give yourself time Flowers
