Locking out a serial mouser!

I have two cats, one a 12 year old who we keep in at night and another one, aged 4, who is an absolute bugger at bringing home mice (very much alive) and letting I loose in the living room. He's brought in at least 6 in the last month and it's a right faff trying to get them out. He has a little hut outside that he sometimes sleeps in, so I've suggested to DH that if he's still out when we go to bed, we should lock the cat flap so he can't get back in. I just don't want to have to go on yet another bloody mouse hunt!! DH thinks it's cruel but as I pointed out to him, he often chooses to sleep outside in his hut. Would you lock him out?

Definitely lock the cat flat. We have 3 cats and every morning im met by half a dead mouse or bird. DH isn't so keen on the idea, I've taken to locking the flap before I go to bed and he doesn't realise.

Absolutely lock him out. We have a kitten who brings in a kill every single night. DH won’t contemplate locking out but he’s agreed to the bedroom door being shut. It’s like an abattoir downstairs most mornings.

There’s a new cat flap that apparently automatically locks them out if they have prey with them! It’s called Only Cats and I heard about it from someone else on here. No idea if it actually works

I wouldn't mind so much if they were dead mice! I'll definitely lock the flap.

Can you get him in at night then lock the cat flap? This is what we have to do. They hate it and when it's hot weather they try to get out of open windows.

Sidisawetlettuce · 18/08/2022 21:48

We did try that but he just headbutts the flap and cries.

That's definitely worth a look! Thanks!

I think that was probably me! I've been following them on Fb and they've just started crowdfunding.

It was in the news a few days ago if you want to read more about it and the people that started the company (DM link but I think they posted some others too if you Google).

It's being crowdfunded on indiegogo for release next year (so seems like you can preorder it but not buy it to be installed yet): www.indiegogo.com/projects/onlycat-the-world-s-smartest-cat-flap#/
