Getting Sticky Willies off long haired cat

My cat must have been lying around ion the ground and is absolutely covered in these tiny wee sticky balls (we call them sticky willies in Scotland).

They are embedded in his fur & wont brush out. He is long haired. I can pull a few out carefully at a time using my fingers - but it's going to take me days at this rate!

Any advice?

I have to pull them out my cat too. He hides under the trees from the rain and sticky willies must make a comfortable bed!

Keep brushing! Try a different brush? I have this wire one which is pretty good at getting out grass seeds and sticky weed burrs.

Hallmark1234 · 16/08/2022 22:38

Could you carefully cut them out/off with scissors?

I have a long haired cat and bought a pair of scissors with rounded tips to cut out matts from her fur . I wait until she's asleep and stretched out and gently cut them out.

Must be a boy-cat-rolling-around thing!

He is totally unimpressed with my picking them out!

My cat keeps doing this. Only way I have found to get them out is a brush and dreamies (as the anaesthetic obviously).

Oh it's a long haired girl cat rolling thing too <glares at cat>

You do realise a photo is required? Here is my sticky willied burr boy!

Actually I've just realised that sounds a bit dodgy but you know what I mean. Grin

Sticky willies are a bloody nightmare stuck on our cats. We tease them out by hand but I also use a metal round toothed comb which seems to work quite well.

Mind you, the dozy animals seem to come in with any amount of random vegetation stuck to them. Photo of Sybil's arse enclosed, plus an old photo of Basil being an arse 😹

Fluffycloudland77 · 17/08/2022 09:40

Oh he is sick of your nonsense isn’t he? 😹

MoreProseccoNow · 17/08/2022 10:52

It was raining here yesterday so they were stuck like glue!

Managed to get about 50 out but then gave up as he was getting increasingly angry.

Hopefully they'll have dried out a bit today - easier to get out!

Mine gets covered too, none of my previous cats have. I don't have to do anything though, she sits in her bed picking them off and spitting them on the floor 🙄

TroysMammy · 17/08/2022 20:22

We call them sticky bobs. My cat is short haired and I haven't a clue where he goes to get covered in them.

TheLongRider · 17/08/2022 21:54

I use a cheap Lidl knock off of a Tangle teaser to get burrs out of my longhaired cat's fur. It works a treat. Otherwise the cats do it themselves over time and spit them out on the floor.

Heronatemygoldfish · 17/08/2022 22:23

Call them sticky buds here.
And my short-haired boycat collects them like they're going out of fashion. And then bites me if I try and remove them. I don't want him planting them in my garden either! Enchantress's nightshade is another one with tiny pricky burr seeds that's now everywhere.

FrazzleRox · 17/08/2022 22:31

Not sure if this works with cats, but with dogs you can apply (horse product) Mane & Tail and then comb out easily

BronzeSage · 20/08/2022 22:53

I'm amazed that your cat allows this. Mine would give me short shrift, and scarper.

DontKeepTheFaith · 21/08/2022 19:58

My long haired cat just scampered because I was trying to get one sticky thing out🤣

Had to trim a bit of hair earlier for the worst bit.

Dcat hates being brushed. I do have an occasional trim when she is asleep, particularly the fluffy arse hair but she seems to sense just the presence of scissors🤣

Kerrrmieee · 21/08/2022 20:06

Same here, luckily my big buffoon loves the fuss so will happily spend hours whilst I pick them out 🙄 he expects drying too when he's been out in the rain - what have I created 🤣

Ps Granddaughter has a new chair bouncer 🙄🙄

I also rate a (knock off) tangle teezer over a cat brush for well... Brushing.

JimmiChoux · 21/08/2022 20:12

I'm going to use sticky willies from now on. I've always known them as love bugs. Don't have a cat but my dog gets covered in them.
