We have been away and my two year old boy cat has been struggling to eat since we returned. He seems to want to and is hungry but mostly licks his food. Went to the vet and they couldn't see anything obvious with his teeth but gave an anti inflammatory. He started bolting around the garden when we got home and is now asleep. Does anyone have any experience of this? We were away for 2 weeks so could this be stress behaviour? Or just to mess with our heads as punishment?

Where was he while you were away - was he in a cattery? It could be stress-related. Have you asked whoever was looking after him how he was eating while you were away? I would keep an eye on him and if it doesn't improve, go back to the vet. It might be that a hard-to-see tooth is troubling him and a dental is on the cards.

Thanks for your very prompt reply! He was at home with friends cat sitting. They said he was fine, eating his sisters food as usual!

Could be coincidence and he's developed pancreatitis it can be triggered by stress.

My cat hasn’t been eating much in this heat. So it could be that

How long has it been since you got him home?

I recently went away for a week and my boy didn't eat for almost two days after getting home. We had him booked into the vet and everything, we were panicked, but he gradually started eating again, needed a bit of encouragement with puree treats on top of the food.

If it goes more than 48 hours get a vet appointment, but if he's drinking, pooing and will take treats, most likely he's stressed out and will need some time to settle back in.
