I've not been feeding my cat enough

I feel so bad. She's 3 and I've always given her1 pouch in the morning and 1 around tea time. I can't believe I've just noticed she should have 3//4 a day. I give her treats / biscuits / chicken but not every day. Sometimes not for days. If she ever cries in the kitchen and I've already fed her twice then the kids will do but I tell them not too usually if I've fed her twice 😢😢

Sorry OP but I had to laugh at the pictures of your clearly starving cat! 😂 I really think you are worrying about nothing. She looks a picture of health. Mine eat a similar amount and the vet has been happy with their weight when they've gone for jabs.

BlueKaftan · 17/08/2022 11:33

She’s gorgeous and looks very content. 😻😻

This is mine, 3.2kg of ridiculous metabolism
3-4 x 100g pouches a day and he never turns food down
He once ate 400g turkey mince raw and then slept for 12hrs Grin

My two both have a pouch in the morning and pouch in the evening, with dry food down and they're both getting fat! Particularly my ginger one. He'd eat constantly if allowed to. No idea how to prevent a fat cat, we're all slim but our cats are very overweight!

HouseofHolbein · 17/08/2022 11:55

My three only have dry food. Small amount 3 times a day. Vet reckons they are perfect 💕

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 17/08/2022 12:02

The feeding guide on the box is just that - a guide, not a fixed, must follow instruction.
fwiw, I currently have 5 cats, they all eat different amounts of wet and dry everyday.
You will know if they are underfed just by looking at them. You have nothing to worry about.

AdoraBell · 17/08/2022 12:05

i don’t have cats, but with dog food it various from brand to brand. And your cat doesn’t look under fed.

Doveyouknow · 17/08/2022 12:09

Our has 2 pouches a day and free access to dried food and is the right weight. You should be able to feel your cats ribs and they should have visible 'waist'. This page has a diagram www.myfamilyvets.co.uk/how-heavy-should-my-cat-be

Fluffycloudland77 · 17/08/2022 16:15

Our Bengal had 4.5 pouches a day. Plus treats off dhs plate. He was very active though. Once he ate 5.5 pouches and staggered to bed.

EL8888 · 17/08/2022 16:25

She doesn’t look overweight to me? Our 3 gets dry biscuits in the morning and wet food at night, they get 1 pouch each

As others have said, cats let you if they are hungry!

EL8888 · 17/08/2022 16:26

@Fluffycloudland77 I’m now imaging him staggering off to bed, into a food coma and snoring! My brother used to have part Bengal cats and they are so big

murasaki · 17/08/2022 16:30

Fat boy and the tiny girl have biscuits available all day, and half a sachet each for dinner . Ten years in I appear not to have starved them.

floofmum · 17/08/2022 17:32

Mine has 2 per day and constant supply of kibble

Perfect for her

TheVanguardSix · 17/08/2022 17:39

She looks very happy and healthy, OP.
She’s got her Six Dinner Sid antics sorted, I’m sure (like all outdoor cats!). 😆🐾

Yeah, ours is on 4 pouches minimum and hunts as well. Must be something to do with the breed. We always get congratulated on his weight at the vets 😂

VerifiedBot2351 · 18/08/2022 13:36

So far today my boy has had two pouches, a meaty stick thing, and a tiny amount of biscuits. I give it another hour before he is staring at the food boxes and shouting!

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 18/08/2022 13:41

I'm not surprised she's crying, one packet of food a day and no biscuits???
Mine get 2 pouches a day but the biscuit bowl is always full with a good quality product and left for them to snack on during the day.
Neither of them is fat but there is always food out.

tellyiscrap · 18/08/2022 14:34

Mine has ate nothing today and feeling very sorry for herself .. gone off to bed ( my bed) not her expensive cat bed

Not sure if it has anything to do with the 4 inch slug thing she barfed up WHOLE in the night all over my bloody cream carpet 🤢

Caspianberg · 20/08/2022 11:55

Mine have applaws biscuits unlimited each day

but only 3 small applaws wet between the 2 of them each evening (70g tins) . They are incredibly fussy and just refuse other food. I was giving 2 tins morning and evening but they kept refusing to eat so just a huge waste. Even when I put down the first tin around 6pm it’s often ignored.

fat ginger ate a gecko yesterday according to neighbours, so no surprise really
