Any tips to stop post surgery wound interference ?

DC was hit by a car on Saturday, complex orthopaedic surgery to his back left lower leg. He is a 15 month old Bengal who loves being busy outside. He came home yesterday with a choice of soft or hard cone, he has removed the hard cone several times and seems much more upset with it, he is tolerating the soft one better but with both he can get to the bottom of his injured leg and is trying to pull off the dressing. He has to be cage rested for the next eight weeks. Any tips for distractions, how to get him to stop interfering with it or to keep both of us sane?

Sorry quick reply as I’m off out. Can you extend the cone by sticking something on. Our cat broken left leg in June, 2 pins in it. We extended the cone by cutting more plastic and sticking on . Not great . He then licked the inside of the cone thinking he was licking his leg but he got the cone off after a wound check 2/3 weeks later. Sorry that wasn’t so quick.

If he is getting out of the hard cone its because its too big around his head. I would get a body harness and use that to secure the cone.
The cat will hate it because it blocks so much of his vision but it will given the surgical area a chance to close over. Lots of calm peting while you sit beside the cage
You could go back to the vet and get something to calm him down if need be. And I would move and cover his cage so that its dim and there are not a lot if visual distractions. If the problem is that the hard cone will make noise on the bars just make sure the bottom is well padded until he adjusts.
