Pregnancy and poo

Hi everyone, we’ve had our cat for four years and when I was pregnant with my second dc my husband did all the litter etc, great. This time round my husband is being a pita wanting to rehome the cat as he says I don’t have any time for it and I’m neglecting him. Really he has just decided he doesn’t want the cat because of the fluff etc and litter mess. I think i probably am neglecting him slightly as I’m working now but he knows I love him and do my other dc (I’m talking about the cat here). I know my husband is trying to get me to get rid of him but I refuse to do that, he is not doing the litter now so I think he’s trying to make me choose between the cat and the unborn baby. I’ve cleaned the cat’s poo bum with my bare hands in my last pregnancy when he’s had runs so would it really be a big deal if I cleaned his litter with gloves? Do i need to wear a mask aswell as the wood litter gets very dusty? I am having many other deeper issues with husband and would love to rehome him but not possible right now and I’m not prepared to give up our cat, he’s family. We talked and researched about getting a cat for a good few years before we did so I’m not going to get rid or rehome just because he’s changed his mind. Please reassure me I can change the litter using gloves and or mask etc. Google is telling me to avoid.

Oh and cat is largely an indoor cat but occasionally likes to wander.

Not sure what others will say but I am pregnant and have been changing my cats litter- no choice as there is no one else to do it. I wear gloves and a mask and obviously wash my hands very thoroughly afterwards.

Thank you I was hoping for someone to say this. I accidentally inhaled some litter with faeces removed before I found out I was pregnant as was tipping it into
recycling but I’ve ignored it but I am worried about that but will wear a mask from now on. Thank you

It's a difficult one but you've got to do what you've got to do. The NHS advice is to wear gloves when emptying cat litter and to empty every day. There will be plenty of people in a similar predicament that have no choice but to empty their cat litter. There are many things we do in pregnancy which carry a small risk. I tend to do it with my mask and gloves before jumping in the shower of an evening too x

@Lovelycheesegromit
The chance of contracting toxoplasmosis from your cat is small. They catch it for the first time in their lives, and usually have immunity from that point on. Also, if you don’t leave dirty litter trays for longer than 24 hours, even if there was toxoplasmosis in there, it would be disposed of before it could pose a risk to you. I’m pregnant and still changing litter trays, I don’t use gloves as my cats don’t hunt so the risk is even smaller, but wash my hands thoroughly after - which I do even if not pregnant!
