Old girl - failing - insurance

Hi all

One of my old girls (both rescues coming up 15] has not been good for around 6 months. She is on heart medication, her teeth are bad so can't groom herself properly, and I just seen blood in her poo.

I need to take her into the vets for a check up next week and I am unsure what to do. Although she is always hungry, she is getting thinner, but does not seem to be any pain at the moment.

I really, really do not want a big vet investigation to take place. Realistically, I feel that she has not too long left, and even if they put her under and open her up, there will be little that can be done. Also I feel that as a nervous rescue, the trauma might be fatal.

So, my feeling is that I want any pain to be managed through medication and to see her out in her own home in comfort. But I also feel awful about this as well. Opinions from those who have seen their old beautiful cats to the end would be welcomed.

Meanwhile the insurance has doubled to £100 per month - her current meds are around £69 per month. I am dithering about keeping it going (with the two, we are looking at £200 per month). However, if she needs more than one med see her out in comfort, maybe I should keep it?

So conflicted. I have had her since 14 weeks and she is a good girl. I want to do what is best for her.

Hi,
We had two 19 year old cats and have had to have one put to sleep today. We just decided that when they look uncomfortable and don't want to do the things they normally do then we will not do anything other than medication that improves their quality of life - no invasive procedures.
You have given the cat a lovely life I'm sure and I'd take her to the vet and see what they say and make then decision based on their prognosis.
Best wishes to you
