Hi all,

I love my cat ti absolute pieces. Shes 10 and I have had her all her life. I rescued her when she was a newborn with her eyes shut. She was in a bad state and I had to had feed her etc..

Anyway, maybe its because she had a rubbish early experience or didn't spend time with other cats I dunno. Or maybe its just cats in general but she is so unpredictable. She's sweetness and light then all of a sudden turns into the devil herself. I have got used to her attacking me over the years. It normally doesn't bother me. She never attacks anyone else who lives or visits here and the cat sitter thiks she's the sweetest thing.

She will all of a sudden bite and scratch me out of the blue and will sometimes jump on me and attack as im walking past.

Shes a tiny thing so its never been too much of an issue but last night I was falling asleep and she clung on to my arm biting down for dear life. I literally could not get her off for ages. Once I did my arm is a mess. Can't believe such a small thing could hurt me so much.

Shes totally well and the vet says its just her personality.

Dunno what to do about my arm its sore, bruised and swollen. It bled pretty badly.

We have avoided each other today. I'm thinking il need to go pick her up if she wants later to break the ice but il admit I'm pretty scared.

Why is she like this with only me. I'm the one who has taken care of her all her life.

Sadly this is common with hand reared cats without litter mates. Their mothers normally sort it out quite aggressively before they finish weaning, we don't tend to as we are so much bigger than them.
Ask the vet nurse for some info about this particular problem.

Boy cat is just like this with DH, definitely thinks he's his littermate. I, on the other hand, am very much seen as a matriarch 😂

I think calico cat is an American name. We call them tortoiseshells.
Years ago i had a tortie, could be so sweet and loving, then suddenly turned into the devil herself.
My present cat, a mostly white cat with a few black blobs is the same. Quite unpredictable at times. It's not nice, I am very wary of him.

According to wikipedia, calicos and torties are two different things :)

A calico is not to be confused with a tortoiseshell, which has a mostly mottled coat of black/orange or grey/cream with relatively few to no white markings. However, outside North America, the calico pattern is more commonly called tortoiseshell and white

Thanks Sunset. I did not know that.
Every day's a school day, as my Mum used to say 😁

Neither did I tbf, I googled it out of curiosity Grin

Years ago our kittens breeder had to neuter and retire her calico as she kept killing kittens. Mom life was not for her. One litter was thought to be new mum inexperience but the third litter had to be rescued when the breeder stayed up to find out what was going wrong. She was trampling them.

I saw a cat sort out one of her feisty kittens: he was generally bothering her and finally was hanging off her head; she swung him round so he dropped off and then sat on his head. It worked!

Pudmyboy · 27/07/2022 03:45

Actually she sat on him, not just on his head....it was funny and cute and effective all at the same time!

NeverDropYourMooncup · 27/07/2022 05:48

If you clean the house with bleach, the smell turns some cats into utter twats.

Cervinia · 27/07/2022 05:57

I knew she was a tortie when I read your OP.

they are known for being feisty, I have one and she’s 16 now but can be a witch. One minute purring and sat on my neck loving me but the next she will turn and give a nasty yowl and lash out. It can be something as small as hearing the other cat elsewhere in the house.

We’re well used to her now, we warn visitors to be wary when she’s wrapping herself around their legs.

she had her vaccinations this week, the Canadian vet was telling me all about his non uk experience of torties, which was the same as mine here!

I had a very similar cat when I was a child OP. She’d been abandoned and I’d also hand reared her from eyes closed. Almost I’d rival behaviour ( and she was a black and white!).

she also didn’t meow.

littlestowl · 29/07/2022 17:39

Identical not rival!

Fluffycloudland77 · 29/07/2022 17:41

Out of interest what’s the punishment for going too far for cats? Because we kind of have nothing really do we? You can say no 9pm dreamies but we all know at 9.05 you’ll be dishing out extra dreamies to apologise for the wait.

theillustratedmummy · 29/07/2022 19:47

@littlestowl yours was probably a great grandmother of mine. Its hot yo run un families.

@Fluffycloudland77 so true. Infact I bought an extra large pack of dreamies the very next day. You can't not really can you. I'm under the paw.

Nope you must keep up the constant flow of treats and adoration to the animal with a brain the size of a walnut.
