Overheated cat

My cat over heated last night (panting) so I rushed her to the emergency vet. They kept her in over night, gave her fluids and did blood tests. She’s ok now, temperature has come down, but the vet fee will be £800!! I’ve no frame of reference, but doesn’t that sound like a lot?

For overnight vet that would be totally normal.

Bloods = expensive
Fluids = expensive
Having an overnight service = even more expensive

Healthcare costs a lot of money.

Sounds about right.
Staff aren’t paid to be available 24 hours. The call out charge would be huge.

Buy a cool mat for her to lie on. Cold wet towel. There are ways of keeping them cool.

Sounds right. I had a 2k bill and wasn't even an overnight stay once. I think they set they're prices to what the insurance will pay out.

Sounds about right I'm afraid. On OOH visit of about 15mins with an anti sickness and anti inflammatory injection set me back about £220 a few months ago. Then another £150+ for the follow up trip to the normal vet plus meds and bloods.

You're paying for a night of care plus all the meds, bloods etc.

Are you insured?

SallyWD · 20/07/2022 08:06

That sounds about right. Do you have pet insurance?

Gleerocks · 20/07/2022 08:09

Fair enough, I guess overnight care just costs a lot. I’ll check with the insurance.
