Good herbs to plant for cats?

Our yard is mainly paved, but I want to put some herbs out there in pots or a raised bed.

I already have rosemary, lavender and sage and the cats seem to enjoy hanging out and lying on the pots, and chasing the bees.

Are there any good herbs that are safe for cats and can stand up to quite a bit of pouncing and scrabbling?

One cat does tend to be quite rough with houseplants and has been known to uproot smaller seedlings as soon as they peep above the soil.

I could just get more rosemary but would be nice to have variety. I know catmint is supposed to be good but worried cat will just get too excited and rip it all up. I think I need calming herbs Grin
Anyone have anything in their garden that works well?

Not sure specifically good for cats but I have the same as you plus cotton lavender, oregano, lemon balm, wild strawberries and woodruff in my garden and cats don’t have any issues with any of them. Bees and butterflies seem to like them all, but my lavender definitely attracts the most.

I planted cat mint in my garden without realising it, and my cats do go a bit crazy in it but it seems to be fairly robust. It comes back to life after they’ve flattened it. They also enjoy just lying in it so I’m planning on moving some plants around in autumn and just creating a big cat mint forest for them!

I grew catnip.. Oh my days they love it!

It's not a herb, but all my cats (current 3 and previous 2) loved lying on my old fashioned pinks (dianthus). I've no idea if it's the scent or something else, but they just flop on top of them. Fortunately it's quite a robust plant and so far they still flower every summer.

Definitely catnip, just for the joy of watching your cats get stoned

Catnip and cat grass are great. Put wire netting or a wire hanging basket upside down over the catnip pot so that the young shoots can get a chance to grow before they're chomped! Cats will eat catnip down to the ground.

Maybe I will get some catnip - that’s a good tip about the wire netting!

I have heard of pinks but don’t know what they look like, will have a Google.

Just read that dianthus is mildly toxic to cats and can cause upset stomach so will avoid those.

Ah, if they chew it, yes, best avoided then. Mine just roll around on it and flatten it.

Catmint, ours lie on it…

I had catnip in my garden and the local moggies used to come over to get stoned. I keep my cat in at night and the buggers would do it in full view of him whilst he watched through the patio doors. I have it in pots so I can remove it from him when he gets too excited.
