Cat litter

Aldi discontinued their amazing clumping litter about 3 years ago.
Sainsburys just changed theirs and it’s trash now…

anyone got any ideas for a clumping litter that actually stays as clumps and doesn’t explode, and that holds smells well. I have tried about 5 or 6 others and they are no good

Looking for a clay based litter as it doesn’t track as much as corn.

picture for the tax (100% not fat, just all fluff and an 8kg Maine coon)

Squeee! Sorry, ahem, serious face. Came on to say Zooplus have some good varieties, including some cheaper ones (Catsan is great and all but also so expensive it’s like pouring money into the bin). But got distracted by the gorgeous picture! Mine is an 8kg not-main-coon-just-a-greedy-fat-b’stard 😊

BarbaraofSeville · 12/07/2022 15:14

Oh what a handsome boy!

Sometimes the more expensive litters don't work out so much more expensive because they last a lot longer than cheaper ones. So while the initial price for something for your cat to piss on might be terrifying, they can work out quite economical.

I would say try a top entry litter tray as they enclose the mess a bit better, but I'm not sure they'll accommodate the generously proportioned beast you have there.

CharlotteOH · 12/07/2022 15:54

Catsan clumping is the best litter around but the cost is crazy ☹️

QuimReaper · 12/07/2022 16:07

We swear by Sanicat clumping, but the price has gone through the roof in the last few years!

Yarnasaurus · 12/07/2022 16:09

Intersand. Not cheap, but best litter I've tried (and I've tried a lot over the years) and lasts for ages.

erikbloodaxe · 12/07/2022 16:19

Intersand Classic. Not supermarket cheap but lasts a long, long time and far superior to every other cat litter I've tried. 14kg bag lasts my 3 over a month.

BarbaraofSeville · 12/07/2022 16:21

If you have Amazon Prime (you can usually sign up for free/cheap if you don't) World's Best, which does live up to it's name according to some, I've never tried it, but it's on a good discount on the Prime Day offer:

Vancat. Tried all the others (they all
smell of wee) and we have 5 cats who insist on using just the one litter tray - they do have other litter trays but apparently they are not the same😳

gets delivered, clumps perfectly and doesn’t smell. Various aromas to opt for. Works out at just under 10liters of litter per week for 5 cats. 40l lasts 5 weeks.

Hutchy16 · 13/07/2022 12:40

Worlds best was our old go to…but the corn tracks EVERYWHERE.

i don’t mind the price, to be honest, no litter is cheap when you have to fill to under bed storage boxes with it lol 😂

I’ll try some of your suggestions, thanks so much :)

I use Biokats Diamond Care. It works really well for covering up any odour as long as the cats cover up their business. Which my male cat Zorro thinks is beneath him so I do it for him instead😑

I'm forever seeking this holy grail, using natsan this month, pretty pleased with it so far

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 15/07/2022 16:09

@Hutchy16 so true. £54 pounds a delivery. But so worth it.
my furry overlords have no idea that I consider their purchases - food, treats, litter etc with far more thought than I give to what I’m having for dinner.

coffeecupsandfairylights · 15/07/2022 17:53

We use Greenwoods.

60l is less than £40 and lasts our three indoor cats about three months on average, so around £3 a week which I think is a bargain. It doesn't smell and clumps really well.

FlibbertyGibbitt · 16/07/2022 06:12

Catsan for me too, have. 2 old girls and 2 trays, big bag last me a week

Hutchy16 · 16/07/2022 19:57

I’ve ordered two big boxes of intersand from zooplus, it arrived yesterday. Four 14 kilo bags so hopefully it’s good.

one of my cats does seriously stinky poos and even though I take it straight out, I have gone for a scented one to start with

This!!! 💯 I spend more money on the cats than me, and more time too lol.

and now my husband has left me so I can be a crazy cat lady…I might get a few more haha

@Hutchy16 Ha ha join the mad cat lady club!

I’ve just spent a month pondering which cat tree to get, gave up and bought both. Am now looking for a catio quotation. God alone knows what the neighbours will think..🤣

BergamotMouse · 17/07/2022 08:57

I see you've bought some. But for later or if anyone else is looking: I recently discovered Natusan which is eye wateringly expensive. I got a £5 trial, normally £17.99 and I said I'd never spend that!! But here I am thinking of getting another pack because it is just that good.

If you want a pack for £5 here's a link

Intersand is in a different league. I recommend putting a really deep layer in.

Going to be doing it today. Because I have Maine Coons I always put it suuuuppppeeeer deep, they seem to like to dig to China before they wee and I don’t like it getting on the bottom of the tray.

I’m hoping one 14kg bag will be enough to fill a tray (underbed storage box) but I haven’t got it out of the box yet to check…waiting for the estranged husband to come round and empty the trays into the bin because they are waaaaaay too heavy for me

It’s not clay based but we like Benek, there is a bit of tracking but it’s the best we’ve found, and it’s relatively cheap. We are trying Greenwood’s at the moment because Zooplus were out of Benek when I did my last order and I don’t like it - it smells and the tracking is awful.

weathervane1 · 17/07/2022 14:43

Tescos is fine. Much cheaper than the cat? One at £13 ish.

Tried it already, found it average at best, and often out of stock. My boy does GIANT wees and they break up if the litter isn’t ridiculously good

Yeah the tracking on them is quite annoying. One of our trays is in a room with a very dark carpet and so it’ll show up too much, that’s why we go for clay as it’s usually not as bad

Just received and started using the van cat, seriously impressed but don't think I can keep up buying it at the price it is.
