Hi, just wondering if it is safe to put a collar on cat? I like him to have one with a little bell, to help the birds get away, but have heard horror stories about them getting caught, now am not sure?

I have had various cats over 30 odd years, all with collars. I have never had any problems with any of my cats. The collars are are designed to snap off now if the cat gets caught on anything. Previously they were elasticated and again slid off of the cat got caught on anything. The bell had saved lots of bird life!

Never. Even the quick release ones can fail. I don’t want my cat hung, trapped or getting a front leg through it and sustaining an injury that way.
Our cats are in at dawn and dusk. So avoid peak hunting times. TBH if they were a menace i would cat proof the garden!

I did a lot of research about cat collars and bought these
www.birdsbesafe.com/
and put them on my kittens as soon as they came home from the shelter - don't know how an adult cat would adjust. Cats without collars kill birds (and other animals) and I'd prefer mine don't.

My 14lb Bengal got his leg and tooth caught on his, if a cat that strong can’t open a snap release collar the others won’t stand a chance.

Get quick release ones. I got a pack of 7 on Amazon and with bell and their tag too makes enough noise to warn off critters and I also know where they are. Occasionally they come off but I usually find them in the flower beds.

My cat has learnt to hunt with her bell in her mouth. She's a monster. If she had thumbs, we'd all be doomed.

No - none of mine wear collars. I don't think they're safe on cats. In fact, I rarely ever see any cats in collars these days.
