Would you let the cat out?

We have a gorgeous 11 month old 😸 . We live on quite a busy road so I had decided that I was going to keep her as a house cat. But since we had her spade she just wees everywhere but the litter box. I can't bear the smell of cat urine and no matter how much I clean up I keep getting whiffs of it !! Speaking to the vet they have said maybe we should let her out and she might stop this. What would you do. I'm so nervous at the thought of her and the road?

Take her out on a harness and lead until you're both more confident.

I let her using on a harness and lead in the garden , but Im wondering if I need to just let her roam !?

Can you block off an area with cat fencing. We have done that with our patio. Cat does want to go beyond gate but road worries us too much.
If since being spayed is their a medical issue?

I’d be really worried about letting an 11 month old out near a busy road. Sadly that is a really vulnerable age for cats as they haven’t learned any road sense. If you can fence off an area of the garden it would be safer.

How busy is the busy road?

Could you cat-proof the garden or build a catio?

DinkyDaisy · 09/07/2022 06:50

With us we have long terrace back gardens and a busy road, famed for boy racers, at the front. Cat next door never goes to the front but have seen a couple dicing with death at the front. Neighbours cat seriously injured in a cat fight though which is another thing to consider if in a cat heavy area.
We considered a catio but our patio between 2 houses lent itself well to blocking. As I said before, if we go through the cat fence gate, he does but we just put him back gently- no chasing!

Please don’t let her out. I’ve known so many young cats to die this way :(

How long ago was her surgery? It could be related, maybe the box sides hurt her incision area as she steps over it? I would rather have her go back see a vet to rule out a problem. I wouldn't want to make her an outdoor cat.

All good points thanks everyone 👍 going to take her back to vets and see what they say. If I thought she would just stay in the garden I'd be fine but it's the road that stresses me out

Could you build her a catio? Our cattery is on a very fast A road and they've got a lovely big catio for their 5 cats, with a couple of trees inside (small trees), lots of shelves and platforms and soil to dig in....they all loaf around in the sun or shade as they want, but aren't at any risk from the road.

This kind of thing, but they made theirs themselves and it's about 6 times the size (big garden and lots of cats...)
