Title says it all really. Many thanks in advance. She's about 1 1/2. We let her go in the garden. I think she might make herself sick by chewing plants. We've already tried changing her food once. She's currently on Purina, wet and dry.

We have two elderly siamese cats, they are sick with literally everything other than Felix As good as it looks (flakes not chunks).

WhiteTeaNoSugar · 01/07/2022 22:12

Mine gets a raw food diet and he’s always fine unless he gets too many snacks from the dinner table. Bonus of raw food is that he also doesn’t poo a lot.

Wethersoriginal · 01/07/2022 22:14

Purina sensitive is good. I find purina high quality and I’ve used the sensitive when one of mine had tummy issues.

i have a Maine coon kitten and he has the purina kitten food. He has a very sensitive stomach. Anything else eaten and he gets bad diarrhoea.

could kitten food be an option? Possibly it’s a bit gentler?

IodineQueen · 02/07/2022 14:04

Take her to the vet in case there are underlying issues. Assuming there aren’t, then you need to start an elimination diet to work out what she’s sensitive to. Feed her poached chicken and rice for a week or so and see if things improve. It will also give her stomach a rest. If she does OK on that, then you can start introducing a single protein food. Many foods contain ‘meat derivatives’ which makes it impossible to pin down what is causing the problem, so you need to make sure whatever you buy contains only one type of protein that is clearly labelled. I would recommend something like Applaws chicken.

If you have a Pets at Home nearby then you can explain this to them and ask them to show you single protein foods. You can receive a refund on all of their ‘advanced nutrition’ foods if she doesn’t get on with them. I had to go through this process with my cat when something wasn’t agreeing with him and they were great.

IodineQueen · 02/07/2022 14:05

I meant to say feed her nothing but chicken and rice for a week, and no treats.

GMH1974 · 02/07/2022 15:27

We will take her to the vet. She goes to the vet a lot with tummy aches and they give her "bland food" and probiotics.

My mum has a ragdoll, he can only eat James Wellbeloved or he’s sick! Everything else she’s tried to give him has been donated to me because my three moggies are feline dustbins.

DontKeepTheFaith · 02/07/2022 19:25

Our ragdoll is quite robust generally but occasionally vomits when she has eaten garden plants. Won’t learn though!

She is a rescue and came to us on Felix agail but has since gone off that. Current acceptable foods are gourmet pate and the purina one sachets. She is very fussy with food and goes off things quickly. Normally just as we have bought in bulk🤦‍♀️

Exactfare · 02/07/2022 19:33

Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Diets Feline EN Gastrointestinal we buy from zooplus and it works out pretty reasonable

He still gets the odd bout of runny bum because he does like to eat random cheese and stuff if he he can get hold of it but it works well

My husband had developed a technique for giving him bum baths when needed 🙈 good thing he's so cute and we love him

We also only give him thrive dried chicken treats (also ordered bulk from zooplus)

My 6yr old Himalayan boy suffers on and off with stomach problems. The vet seems think it could be IBS but so far all tests have been inconclusive. He’s on Royal Canin gastro dry food and has a small amount of a Yumove sachet and a Cobalaplex vitamin B12 capsule mixed in Sheba cat soup or Lik-E-lick yogurt every morning. He’s only had one upset since December which is the longest time he’s ever been “ok” I treated him with Prokolin paste and he recovered very fast. Hope you find something that works for your baby.

silentpool · 03/07/2022 00:48

Mine is on Applaws dry food and home cooked chicken or raw minced meat (various types). Of the canned food, he is ok with Applaws but others have made him sick - bad stomach.

Choopi · 03/07/2022 00:51

We have what we think is a ragdoll cross rescue and she has a sensitive stomach. After trying every food known to man the only one that doesn't cause issues is aldis purina knock off dry food. For us it was just a matter of trying everything until we found one that worked.

I have Siamese. 1st was an outdoors cat so we didnt really have a litter tray. He was occasionally sick with fish-type pouches so changed to poultry. He would eat fish fine, so probably not that. He was sick at the end a lot but that was due to tumours.

We now have 2 rescue indoor Siamese obtained at different times and different backgrounds. 1st came to us at 15 months - only ate crunchy so I bought the best i could (James Wellbeloved). Often constipated on that, despite water being available. We have helped him to eat other foods, but that remains his preference. He is always desparate to get out and eat grass but he is sick from that. I do need to groom him more. The newbie will only eat pouches - I find her poos very loose and diarrhea like - and very smelly. We are slowly introducing her to new foods, but she wont touch crunchy.

Sorry the point of my rather long and dull post is that every cat is so different. And you cannot force them to eat what they dont want. My preference is that all of my cats eat a mixture of dry, wet and fresh foods as I think that is the healthiest option.

MrsPnut · 03/07/2022 18:42

Our elderly Maine coon is very fussy and she rotates round applaws shreds, Lily’s kitchen fillets and scrumbles pate. She has scrumbles kibble or noods, applaws or natures variety.
She’ll like a food until you buy more than one box and then she goes back to just licking it so we cycle through the different types.

Her poop doesn’t particularly smell and her hair balls are quite small and easy to bring up. She used to eat gourmet tins and whiskers kibble and she stank. She also used to be sick all the time trying to bring up huge hair balls.

we have a 12 year old long haired cat who has a sensitive stomach.

we don’t feed him pet food with gravy only jelly (on the advice of the rescue centre) and he gets 4 small meals a day rather than 2 meals a day (same amount of food, just an hour between breakfasts 1& 2 etc)

too many cat biscuits also make him regurgitate, so we only give him a small number at a time.

he drinks a lot of water, but seems to be loads healthier since we started the 4 small meals a day and isn’t always starving (as he’s regurgitated his meal)

there are quite a few sensitive varieties of food which may help.

we have 2 long haired cats who both love Crave biscuits above anything else.

RC digest sensitive, wet and dry. Ruinously expensive but worth it not to have to clean her bum!

I don't have a pedigree cat but have a wee rescue moggy who has a sensitive stomach and was sick and had diahorrea.

We are feeding her a combination of Hills science plan-stomach and skin dry food and purina wet food, she has been OK with it and having normal poos and no sick!

We are very careful not to leave any human food lying around at all as she will eat it and be sick!

Newlychosencatservant · 03/07/2022 21:53

She also gets fed four times a day (in smaller portions) as we think that she was being sick if there's too long between meals.

Cawcaw9 · 04/07/2022 07:08

My longish haired cat eats Orijen Cat & Kitten dry food. According to the bumpf it’s grain free & includes whole prey (bones & offal 🙀) & raw ingredients.

it’s expensive, I buy 5.4kg bags which cost around £50 but they last our single cat for quite a long time. I last ordered at the end of March.

Our cat does well on it, never been sick & no diarrhoea. She is a grazer, so eats little & often all day & night. She doesn’t like any wet food I’ve given her & turns her nose up at some other dry foods I’ve tried, but has been happy to eat this fot the past year+ 🤞
