Introducing new cat to existing quite aggy cat

Is it possible to add a cat to a household when you know your existing cat is aggressive to other cats? My current cat is very territorial and I’m always catching him terrorising the neighbours cats. I’d like to adopt a friends cat - is there any way this might be possible?!

Probably not. Some cats are only children at heart.

Sounds unlikely tbh.
I wouldn’t want to risk bringing another cat into the home of an aggressive cat that terrorises other cats! It would be very unfair on the other cat (just had to rehome someone’s cat for them because it was attacking the other, more timid cat. Timid cat was getting ripped to shreds and spent most of its time hiding, dashing out for a quick feed then hiding again!) it would also be pretty unfair on your existing cat that feels the need to defend its territory already. Is he intact or has he been done but still just like that?

I really don't think it's fair to put either cat through that, and I'm a big advocate of multi-cat households in general.

Hi. I managed it! Started by confining new cat to one room so she got used to it and had her own safe space. Then let her roam round the house freely whilst existing aggy cat was out. Finally introduced them with a lot of praise, play and treats thrown in. It wasn't love at first sight, he growled at her A LOT to begin with. But he soon realised she wasn't really a threat, there was enough food for both of them etc. He learned to tolerate her fairly quickly. And she adores him! Lived quite happily together for a number of years now.

He is neutered! Been done years ago. I caught him starting on a cat five doors down so not even his territory. The neighbours’s cat was here long before him and they see each other all the time and there’s always violence! I did think it would be unlikely but friend needs to re home cat in difficult circumstances so I was hoping I could help her. Lucy that’s good to know! I just would hate for it to go wrong!
