Moving house with two cats

Hi, Just looking for advice really.

We're moving to a new city, approx 3 hours drive away.

We're lucky enough to have a few weeks grace of having keys to new place before having to move in. This means we're packing up some bits and taking them gradually, before one final move at the end of July when furniture will be packed up and we'll move out permanently.

With this in mind, just wondering how best I can prepare the new house before the cats have to be moved. Tbh they're already a bit unsettled because of the packing going on(we live in a small flat so it's quite chaotic with boxes stacking up)... added to this we will have to be away most weekends (decorating and DIY in new house) so will have neighbours coming in to feed them which also unsettles them a bit.

Have never moved with cats before and feel more worried about them than any other part of the moving process!

There is a spare room at the new house they can be put into when they first arrive but nowhere in the current flat they can go whilst furniture is being moved as it's too small.

Any tips would be gratefully received.

You could put them in their carriers on the day of the move and put them in your car - windows open of course😊 Take them to the new place a.s.a.p., then leave them in a room, still in their carriers, if the door can't be locked and if the carriers are big enough, so they're not cramped. Put all their things in the room, so things are familiar to them.

It's also a good idea to take them out on drives a few times before the day of the move, so that they can adjust to being in the car for longer than usual.

Be prepared for toilet accidents as well😩

Hi, thanks for replying. Yes, girlcat usually wees in the carrier even in the 10 minute trip to the vets so I might have to think about what to line her carrier with to make sure she's not just sat in a puddle for hours. I did wonder if i should speak to the vet about anything I can give them as a sedative, or if they'll just sleep in the car anyway once we're on our way?

Line the carrier with a puppy pad?

Towel will work in the bottom of the carrier too
