Insurance and cat flu

Our cat is a rescue, we got him at six months and we were told he'd had cat flu. So I'd insured him saying he'd had it so respiritory things omitted from cover but now it's four years later and he's never been ill since. I need to change insurance to a lower cost but do I still need to say he's had cat flu? How is that relevant to now?

It's still a preexisting condition on his vet record so you need to declare it.

Half my rescues have had cat flu as kittens so had it as exclusions on insurance. Never turned out to be relevant.

Well if you ever need to claim the insurance company will request your pets full medical history so it will be on there.
Cat flu viruses can stay dormant for years and only manifest under times of stress or illness so it is still relevant in a way. Or they can just be carriers for life and never display symptoms.
It shouldn't mean any respiratory problems are excluded, just upper respiratory infections. Asthma for example wouldn't necessarily be related and your vet could state that on a claim for you if that was the case.
