Raw feeding cat

Hi, I'm getting my first cat soon. She's currently raw fed and I'd like to continue this. I've been advised to use Bulmer raw food, does anyone here use this? I was also told to go for the one with 10% bone. Are additional supplements also required? The cat doesn't get any commercial food at all, just raw. I found Bulmer raw food for sale online either as single packs or trays with 20 pieces. A tray sounds better value but I'm wondering how much room they take up in a freezer as mine isn't huge.

Any advise would be great for this soon to be cat mum - thanks.

I haven't heard of this brand but have recently started my older cat on katkin. She loves it. It's flat and fits in the freezer easily. You can get a trial pack for a reasonable price.

Apparently it's a brand for dogs but cats can have it as well? It's just meat, organs and bone in various types/quantities. I haven't heard of Katkin, is that raw as well? I had a look at a FB group but it was actual carcass feeding and people using grinders and whatnot, this stuff is prepacked so you just get it out the freezer as needed. I'm not sure how much to feed, an entire packet in one go, or half? I've no idea.

How long does it take to defrost? Just overnight? I rarely have my own meat in the freezer so not sure about these things as when I do it goes straight in my oven.

Yeah I was told about the litter tray not smelling as bad haha. Sounds like a win win! I just need to get things started, my first cat and a raw fed one at that so I'm a little nervous about getting things right. Thanks.

I couldn't imagine the faff of making it myself. Katkin is for cats only I think. It's marketed as raw, but it's "lightly steamed". The trial pack has gone down really well and the meat looks great quality.

Kat Kin isn’t raw but it’s very good - although expensive.

I would be hesitant about using a raw mix for dogs. Cats needs different levels of added nutrients including higher levels of taurine.

Raw feeding cats requires a lot of research and being honest is faffy. We mainly raw feed using a home made recipe that includes added vitamins that I found online and double checked against guidelines for required nutrition. When we are too busy we feed KatKin.

Cats require a certain amount of taurine in their diet to remain healthy - I'm not sure if this can be achieved easily via a raw diet primarily designed for dogs?

My cat has been on PurrForm for 18 months and she loves it. It’s raw and comes in small pouches or tubs.

Thanks I'll look into the taurine side of things. That brand is what their cats are fed on, I've not looked into any others. Will have a look at Purrform, thanks. thanks also for the info on the portion sizes, I have no idea about these things! So do you feed that twice a day then?

Is it made specifically for cats? And do you have a link please?

I agree that dry food isn't great on its own, but my old cat has great teeth due to having some dried food. She mainly has Katkin now.

Yes their marketing is a bit pushy but my cat loves it. I don't understand why you and to apologise to your neighbours though?! It can't be smaller through walls! I don't like the idea of truly raw food myself l.

Can't be smelled through the walls*

Ah yes. It definitely has an odour to it! My husband is always complaining about it. I do think Katkin is good quality though and my cat loves it. We do still give dry food as she's a nibbler and also some cheaper cat food she likes. She's very fussy though so is limited in what she likes. Katkin then lasts about 2 or so months for me.
