AIBU I Don't Want My 16 Year Old Cat to be Put Under Anesthetic.

I posted last year when my cat was diagnosed with stage two kidney disease.

The vet is insisting on further blood tests to see if the kidney disease has progressed and if it has to put her on medication.

My cat is extremely stubborn and an ex street cat so after the 15 years she's been living with me she's still a bit feral. She refuses all wet renal cat food so still eats the crap she loves (Friskies Mackerel). She also hates all renal dry food but actually likes RC 12 plus. She hated the phosphorus binders. So from her diet and age there's a good chance the disease is progressing.

She alo hates taking meds and is a nightmare to give tablets.

AIBU to insist I want her to enjoy the life she has left and not keep having tests and sedating her every 12 months?

We already go to the vets every two weeks for fluids. It used to be every week but it stressed her out too much.

YANBU. Can you learn to do the fluids yourself?

@ThreeLittleDots she's a difficult patient. She's generally well behaved at the vets as she's scared. I did try but it didn't go well. I'd rather the medical stuff be at the vets and home to relax.

I think you are right. I wouldn't want that for my cat.

Thanks. Good to know I'm not being unreasonable. We did have emergency visit to vets as I thought her UTI from last year was back.

They managed to do blood tests without sedation and as she urinated they got a sample which was probably not the best condition for testing but still something.

Her kidneys have improved significantly and her thyroid is the issue so she's on meds. Am delighted she's doing so well.

Why are they sedating her to take bloods? I’ve had dozens of animals and bloods have never been taken like this.

GodspeedJune she is a very difficult patient and still part feral. She can be pretty fierce. I had a vet we don't usually see and she got bloods without sedation which was great. She did say it was a challenge.
