Cat gas fever, not eating and not responding to antibiotics - help!

My 12 year old cat has been ill for a few weeks now - he clearly feels hot, as he sleeps in the bath, and has a raised temperature when the vet takes it. He’s also barely eating.

About two weeks ago, the vet prescribed antibiotics, anti inflammatory and gave him an appetite stimulant. It seemed to work for a bit, but then he went down hill again.

So she then took his blood and ran a load of tests, but can’t see anything wrong. She gave him another dose of the same medications. He picked up slightly the next day, but then got worse again and has had no improvement since then.

We’re taking him back in the morning but we just can’t understand what’s wrong - he feels like skin and bones now as just won’t eat.

Anyone been through this or have any ideas? Thanks

Our cat is currently recovering from an infected bite. He had a temperature and they kept him in overnight and gave an antibiotic injection and I think he was on an IV drip. That brought his temperature right down. He picked up the following day but then went very lethargic and lack of appetite. He improved when the pus and serum suddenly all drained out of his leg about a week after the original injury. It was very obvious with ours though that he had that injury. Vet did say if he was insured they’d have done a CT scan to see if any foreign body etc in the leg. Has yours had that scan? Hope your furry friend picks up soon.

Thanks for responding. Glad your cat is doing better.

Sadly it’s not sounding great for our cat - took him back this morning and a different vet suspected something abdominal - says he can feel a mass and so he’s having an ultrasound to see what’s going on, likely followed by taking some cells. If it is a cancerous mass, they’re saying treatment options are limited, especially due to his age. So we’re just waiting at the moment.

oh so sorry to hear that. Paws crossed it’s not cancerous.
