We didn’t have the operation, we chose to go with the radioactive iodine therapy which worked well and would recommend. They have to stay in the unit for a couple of weeks and then you have to be careful cleaning their tray but it was the best option for us.
Cat has had surgery for other non related conditions. Biggest risk is normally the general but your cat is young so should respond well. Very young for thyroid problems, our vet said they’d never seen a cat younger than nine with it! Don’t feel awful! Cats are excellent at hiding illness. All the very best for the op.

We had her on Vidalta while we waited for the procedure so that had sort of calmed down the symptoms. She then came off that in the run up to going to the hospital. So was back to being a bit manic just before. She was fine as soon as she had it to be honest, once she was back with us they did follow up blood tests to make sure it was as expected and she was totally fine then. It’s horrible seeing them like it but the vet has caught it now and can treat it really successfully.

My 18 year old cat had it and it was the best thing ever. I was so anxious because she was so old but the disease couldn't be controlled on tablets and she was getting thinner and thinner and having terrible diarrhoea.
After the radioactive iodine she was like a totally new cat, happy, playful, eating loads. We had another very happy two years together and she eventually died of something else.
I was so grateful for that wonderful time together.

They allowed Bluebell home after a week. Her symptoms improved straight away.

Sorry keep adding stuff - she had radioactive iodine under sedation.

My 20 ye old is on thyronorm and is responding wry well to it he bloody loves the taste of it. No progression in the disease since he’s been on it so no need for surgery but I guess it depends on your blood readings
