Sneezing cats

I have two cats; one is three, the other ten months.

The younger one started sneezing two days ago and now the older one has started too.

I’ve googled and found everything from “don’t worry about it” to basically “your cat will self-destruct in five seconds”.

They’re indoor cats, fully vaccinated, and haven’t been in contact with any other cats lately. They’re eating and drinking as normal, playful and active, and all fine in the litter tray department.

I’m assuming it’s just a cold and they’ll be fine in a few days, but worried that it’s a symptom of some made feline disease I’ve never heard of before.

Has anyone experienced this before and can offer me some advice, please?

Cats can get hayfever. You can give them piriton!

I've seen cats have sneezing fits, that don't last long. Have you changed anything in your house recently? A new air freshner, new plant, perfume, etc?

Hi our cat started sneezing and a few days later a massive blade of grass came out of her nose! I had a vet appointment booked as it was constant but obviously it was that.

Didn't know that!

Hay fever! My own cat gets it and we give her piriton but make sure you weigh them to give the correct dose ☺️

Thanks everyone. I feel much more reassured after that.

There’s nothing new in the house, and they stay indoors so hadn’t thought of hay fever but sounds like that could be it. We have a dog who is constantly trailing in stuff from the garden, so definite possibility there.

Will try Piriton. Sounds a bit mad!

I've got the same issue with our 19 year old indoor cat. His eyes are a bit runny too, so we took him to the vet. She checked him over, all good, gave us eye drops which have helped but he is still sneezing. It started when my hay-fever kicked in this year! I also didn't know that cats got hay-fever so that is reassuring, thank you!
