Flies and cat food

We have two cats and they are quite picky eaters. They are 1 yr old and they have 2 pouches of food each, 1 morning and 1 evening, plus dry food available.

They rarely eat all the wet food in one go and normally come back to it during the day. The problem is in the summer it goes horrible and attracts lots of flies.

Any suggestions or should I change how I feed them and when ?
Thanks

How about just half a pouch each, at a time during hot weather so that less is wasted from flies and spoilage? You can change the frequency of feeding to suit you, if necessary.

Was about to say the same... just half a pouch but feed more often. Both my girls are grazers and will be backwards and forwards to their bowls all day for a little nibble so I just put less down at a time.

What about the micro-chip feeders? They have a lid that opens and closes as the cat uses it. Or perhaps an ordinary timed feeder with two or more sections and just put a bit down in each section to open at different times?

Yeah don't leave wet food out. It's really grim. The top layer dries out and crusts. can't be nice for the cat either.

If mine leaves a bit on the plate, I scoop it back into the tin, seal it with those can toppers and refrigerate it. I mix it back with her evening dinner or a with a creamy treat mid afternoon. Add hot water to bring it back to room temperature.

Longest it stays in the fridge is half a day.

My girl doesn’t have a strict routine. I’ve tried but she eats when she wants and she doesn’t like the automatic feeder. I started putting her bowls on top of ice packs and would cover them with takeaway lids. She uses her nose to push it off when she’s hungry. We’ve been doing that for 3 years and haven’t had any issues.

I would only leave it down for half an hour then remove They will soon learn food isn't available all the time and start eating what they need till the next feed

I have fly screens at the windows as I hate flies. Mine are raw fed. If it doesn't get eaten it goes back in fridge for next meal time

I only put half a pouch each out at a time

I used a motion activated feeder for my last cat when he got old and less greedy. The Surefeed one has a really good seal so keeps the food fresher for ages.

Just feed smaller amounts, more often.

Mine only get half a pouch at a time, and constant dry food. They wolf it down within minutes so there's never any leftovers. We have no problems with flies.
