Tiny kitten advice ( 13 weeks )

Hi everyone! Yesterday I took home my two 13 week old kittens. Baby was the runt of the litter and is only 550grams at 13 weeks old, from what I have read online this is TINY for a kitten her age. Her sister Honey is also very small at 750grams. They were both checked over by a vet before they were allowed to come home with us and they are completely healthy and playful kittens! Can anyone recommend good food brands that I can feed to Baby? As she is slightly on the skinny side. Currently she is eating half a sachet of IAMS Delights (in gravy with chicken) 3 times a day and she has access to Smilla Kitten Poultry Dry Food throughout the day. She loves her food! I just want them to have good nutritious food so they can be as healthy as possible :)

I think we need to see them before any advice can be offered. Smile

Have a look on Zooplus, they sell all manner of kitten foods.

I want to see The Tiny Kitten please.

Theunamedcat · 14/05/2022 15:44

Pics or they don't exist litter tray rules!

AnotherEmma · 14/05/2022 15:51

The most nutritious food for cats is very high in protein and is grain-free. A lot of cat food has shockingly low amounts of protein. So I would suggest looking for high quality kitten food and checking the protein content.

Some brands to look for: Canagan, McAdams, Symply,

It's obligatory to post a photo on any kitten post OP.

Here is a pic! Baby has a dark nose and Honey has the more ginger face

They are utterly gorgeous. I want a cat now (but dog would be outraged.)

AnotherEmma · 14/05/2022 15:59

Nothing helpful to say but THOSE EARS!!!! What sort of cat is mamma cat?

OliveHenry · 14/05/2022 16:03

They're not kittens they're utterly adorable gremlins. Be sure not to feed them after midnight!

romdowa · 14/05/2022 16:11

I'd keep them on what ever they were eating before. Changing foods suddenly can run the guts out of them. If you do change you'll have to do it slowly.

Antarcticant · 14/05/2022 16:15

I've just melted into a puddle😍

Friedaubergine · 14/05/2022 17:59

Orientals 😍
Yes we are keeping on the original food for now.

Just confused about “recommended” foods as some of the supposedly good ones contain little protein.

For being so small they are little live wires which is reassuring.
Thanks for your replies and thanks for the link @AnotherEmma

I wouldn't change their food if they enjoy it, just feed more often - so for now, I would increase the amount of wet food to 4-5 times a day instead of three.

Friedaubergine · 15/05/2022 15:24

@coffeecupsandfairylights
we have increased the amount of wet food and have dry food and water available all the time.
Theyre constantly eating. We noticed today that the little one has been eating mostly the jelly in the wet food so we’ve started mashing it all up.

Adorable! I'd recommend Applaws Kitten - it's one that's most readily available right now. There seems to be a logistics problem with all kinds of cat/kitten food these days. My kitten is / was hugely fussy and didn't put weight on for a whole month. This is one she consistently enjoys.

AnotherEmma · 15/05/2022 15:37

I disagree with the advice to keep feeding more of the same food.
If someone needs to gain weight then they have to eat calorie rich foods.

Toddlerteaplease · 15/05/2022 15:39

Omg those ears. Apparently cats with big ears are good mousers. Confused

Friedaubergine · 15/05/2022 23:37

Thanks for your advice everyone
mWe do want to change food but are wary of causing upset tummy from change of food.
We will be changing but will have to be gradual.

The problem of eating only the jelly from the food is not going to help either. Maybe a late type food instead ?

Meanwhile, here’s another pic for us to drool over 😁

I meant pate type food

Beamur · 15/05/2022 23:42

Cuties.
I think mine enjoyed nature's menu but I also have them one meal a day of cooked fish or chicken to up the protein. They're good sized healthy 3 yr olds now. They arrived on a diet of Royal canin biscuits and wet food and whiskas (very smelly poop)

MrOllivander · 15/05/2022 23:46

Natures menu is a pate type and even my fussy cat eats it. He's on the kitten version as he needs the calories

Basilbrushgotfat · 15/05/2022 23:53

Take a look at Katkin.

Your vet can advise also.

P.s. they're gorgeous!

NeverDropYourMooncup · 16/05/2022 00:06

Why are they not named Gizmo and Mogwai?

Some cats are just small, so don't need feeding up, they just need what they need to grow at their rate.
