How long do you leave wet food out for?

I usually leave some out in the morning, and throw away any in the evening for a fresh pouch. Then throw away in the morning and repeat the cycle. Is this too long to leave out? She's a small and slow eater and leaves about half the pouch anyway. Just wondering what everyone else does dry food out all day in case she wants some too.

I would do that as mine are grazers. Mine only get it as a treat. But the current one smells so bad it gets chucked out much quicker!

Definitely too long in the summer, do you not get maggots?

For my last cat, who needed it left down, I used a motion activated feeder (Surefeed? I think) which worked well as the bowl was completely sealed.

If she only eats small amounts, would it not make more sense to feed her little and often? So a third of a pouch at breakfast, a third later, and the final third before bed?

Mine don't understand the concept of leaving wet food, it gets inhaled in less than sixty seconds in this house 🤣

Ha I wish mine wolfed it down. She's little and needs fattening up! Will put out half a pouch from now on to avoid spooling/wastage. Thanks!

In only ever put down half a sachet. Mine is greedy, wolfs it down and then more often than not throws it all back up again.

She barely eats half a sachet but she's on renal food which isn't the tastiest so I like to give her a choice of wet and dry. Wish I had a greedy cat! She's always been a small eater though.

I'd be inclined to just feed half a pouch at a time tbh, especially in the warmer months. We did this with our old girl as she could be slow & uninterested in food.

I only put out the amount of wet food that is likely to be eaten (well 95% of the time)

AntarcticTern · 11/05/2022 09:41

Mine are small eaters too, so I only put out a third of a pouch at a time.

Feed 1/2 a pouch three times a day. Mine have wet food each morning about 2/3 to large male and 1/3 to small female, kibble through day, 2 pouches for male and 1 pouch for female late night. Kibble over night. My cats prefer wet food to kibble. It gets eaten within 20 mins.

My cat has gone completely off tinned meat, she has a sniff and walks away, I'm sure its because she prefers human foods.
