Worry about upsetting cat if I have a Baby

I love my cat she’s 11 months old and we adopted her when she was 3 months from the local RSPCA. She’s an indoor cat and the light of my life.

I am trying to decide now I’ve hit 36 whether to try for a baby with DH but I’m worried my cat will be upset and I could never ever give her up and I don’t want to upset her.

any advice?

ps she’s the sweetest cat ever never scratched or bitten maliciously and even when she plays she is so careful not to scratch you and only nips. She’s very people centric , affectionate and loves attention.

My dcats gave ds a wide berth for about a year but soon became besties after that. Not all dcats protest badly about a new addition!

Have a baby. Your cat will be fine. Plenty of people have both.

Honestly, my cat wasn’t wild about my DD when she first turned up. Not hatred or enemies or anything, he just clearly didn’t see the point of her 😆

2 years later they really are best pals. She’s always clamouring at the cat cupboard because she wants to give him a ‘treeeeeeat!!’ and she cuddles him and tickles him under the chin for ages, they love each other so much.

Honestly if that’s your reason for not having DC I’d assume there’s something more to it, DCat will adjust!

Just make sure she has a great cat tree & plenty of high places to hang out away from baby once they start crawling / toddling. Teach child to be gentle and leave the cat alone unless she approaches for strokes.
We have two cats and are due our first baby in a month, I'll use a Feliway plug in for the first month or so to help them adjust too.

She's gorgeous!

Dcat pretended baby DD didn't exist when she was tiny - I have photos of her sitting on my knee while I'm BFing, as if she's making a point that just because there's no space, she's not going to move.

She did however take to pissing on our bed for a couple of weeks so she was obviously unhappy, but she got over it!

But either way, I would never not have a baby for the sake of a cat.

Your DCat may decide to help raise baby half cat or choose to completely ignore baby until junior can actively engage in securing treats 😹Our lady loves my boys, she regularly sits on their beds plays with their toys and listens to them read. Best of luck

One of our cats did get a bit depressed when DC1 arrived, but feliway sorted him out.

My DC now adore our remaining cat & feed & fuss her the most of all. They've never pulled her tail or been unkind.

I can also remember worrying if I could ever love a baby as much as I loved my cats 😂that really wasn't a problem either - there's plenty of love to go around.

Me and my cat are really close and I was worried about having a baby but it's been fine. She hasn't let herself be pushed out, when DD was a newborn she used to curl up in the crook of my arm that wasn't holding DD and we'd all go to sleep together. I did have less time for her for the first year but now DD is older Dcat is back on my lap every evening and on my bed at night.
