Help me feed my aged cat please !

I have three Siamese cats. The oldest one is 17 and the other two are 16 and a half.
I have always fed them Royal Canin dry food for Siamese cats as they love it. It's their favourite food, and although I feed them other foods also, when we run out of the dry they get very annoyed.
The oldest girl is thin, painfully so. My vet prescribed Vidalta for hyperthyroidism and she has one a day. The problem I have is giving her food to keep the interest up and I am running out of ideas/options. She has never been greedy and always the slim one, but now she is so skinny and bony.
I have got to the stage where I will try anything and wonder if anyone else has an aging Siamese with similar problems and if so what food do you give?
This morning I have offered fish fingers which she picked over and some chicken breast cooked in milk.
She likes wafer thin ham and tinned chicken and tinned tuna but not enough !
She likes full fat single cream and sometimes grated cheese
I have tried just abut every brand of wet tinned cat food available and she dislikes them all
She likes cat milk but has gone off that now
All the foods I have mentioned are eaten in tiny amounts - only just enough to keep her alive.

I even let her eat from my plate. I will do anything I can to help her.
Has anyone fed their cat 'Smalls' and had success. I would be interested to hear.
Apart from being so thin she is really happy and loving. I want to improve the quality of her life for a little while longer as she is so happy.
My vet weighs her and says she is too thin.
Help!

My middle-aged cat wasn't eating because it was hurting him. Diagnosis took a long time and in the meantime the vets gave us Royal Canin Recovery which is between liquid and paté in texture. He also ate those cat treats that are meat flavoured liquid in a tube... lix-e-lix? Or Miamor cat cream, or Sheba does one too. Sometimes after one of those he'd eat some 'proper' food. Other successes were Lily's Kitchen smooth pate - the turkey and duck (blue lid) and chicken and game (?) (yellow lid) are the smoothest and I mashed them up with a bit of cat milk. And treats from our plates of course! Mostly salmon and ice cream! Earlier on the vet tested him with lots of different food and he ate Royal Canin rénal sélect biscuits - she said cats go crazy for them (it's now referred to as cat crack in our house!). He was on mirtrazipine too - can confirm it works! Dose was a 1/4 of a 15mg pill every three days at first and later every two days.

Have you tried pill syringes? They shoot the pi to the back of the throat :D

Although I just used to crush them between two teaspoons and mix them with food (easier to so when cat eats!)

I think another visit to the vet might be the next step. I'm going to see how she goes on with the change of diet for a week and see how things go.
No her teeth are fine. No problems there. She is just old and has always been very slim and picky with food but there is slim and then there is too slim.

Re the pills... DH tried breaking the pill into small pieces and putting it on top of the lick-y-lux treat - he was so crazy for the treat that he ate the pill no problem!

Bunty55 · 26/04/2022 00:24

I'm going to try a pill syringe. Thanks

There are other thyroid meds (liquid that you put in food and Methimazole which is a cream you run into the ear) which might be easier to administer if she refuses pills too. Wishing you luck!

A quick re-cap. She does not like the Liquivite at all and the Blink was quickly tested and then largely ignored. However, she loves the Katkin so we live to fight another day :)
My other cats are having a field day on the leftovers !

Brilliant news :)

Would she eat a little bit of tinned salmon ? I adore Siamese cats, I have always wanted one but can’t manage it with the money, vet’s bills etc. One of my neighbours had one in the flats I used to live in. I used to see it walking along the window ledges as regal as a queen.

Bunty55 · 28/04/2022 14:14

Tinned salmon is one of her hates :( She does not mind tuna but I only offer it once a week if that or she will turn her nose up

So for today I can breathe......... she has consumed half a packet of Katkin now and is sleeping on my knee as I type. She really liked the sprinkles

We have liquid meds to our hyperthyroidism cat. Also if the smell or taste of food is an issue then Royal Cabin do exigent aroma and exigent savour, they really helped with our fussy cats. Second the liK e Lix too and poached chicken breast

Whiskeypowers · 28/04/2022 14:34

My 14 year old cat loves Mjammam kitten food (available on Amazon mans elsewhere) with thrive freeze dried chicken crushed on top.

I have also spent a small fortune to her her toe at high calorie food and put weight on but she will polish one of these tins off over the course of a day

she will also eat a tablet in it if you are lucky !

My three cats have that dried exigent aroma royal canin mixed in with applawse chicken dried cat food and they love the combination. They are the only dried foods they will touch
