Deliberately missing litter tray??

DCat keeps weeing over the back of her tray onto the floor!
She gets in as normal, but then her bum rises as she's weeing so her wee totally misses.
There doesn't seem to be a pattern and it's maybe once every 4 or 5 days - does anyone have a clue what could be causing it?

Not sure why cat might do this but get a hood for the tray and he won't be able to pee onto floor. My car went on a dirty protest when confined to a cage after pelvic surgery. Would stand up and wee straight out the cage, so had to put plastic sheeting over cage and cover floor underneath. Once out of cage never did it again.

If its a recent thing then give your vet a call as an adult cat suddenly not using the litter tray as normal is a medical red flag.

Other things to try are a hooded tray, or some trays have higher sides, or is it different brand of litter? Is it the nighttime wee, or morning wee or no pattern? My kitty hasn't sprayed over the sides yet, but my goodness she has come close. Turns out her liver is swollen so she can't hunch down/squat as easily so her butt is more in the air. I'm not saying this is the reason for yours though so don't panic.

When my cat started doing this it turned out to be a bladder infection. She was rising because of the pain/ discomfort. The vet sorted her out with a course of antibiotics.

Is it a different type of litter that she doesn't like the texture of?

Normally when there is a change in a cat's bowel or bladder habits it is because of a medical problem or they feel threatened by a stray invading their territory.
The last time my cat started doing this we had a stray that was marking the outside of the house near the window of the room where his litter tray was. We only figured this out after $$ of vet bills and tests. Wierd.
