Would you keep cat in?

My cat is desperate to go out but he’s got an injured tail - we think our neighbours cat bit him. He’s been seen by the vet and is on painkillers/antibiotics and had the wound flushed.

Am I cruel to keep him in?

He’s been to the vet today I should say. The wound is pretty raw.

very cruel - let it free into the wild :)
Fluffycloudland77 · 06/04/2022 20:22

No I’d be a mean cat mum and say no. If your poorly enough to see a vet your too ill to go out.

Allergictoironing · 06/04/2022 21:04

I would keep in as well, last thing you want is for it to pick up dirt or more infection.

PukkaP · 06/04/2022 21:05

I'd definitely keep him in until it's healed

Anomalocaris · 06/04/2022 21:08

He needs to stay in until it's healed.

Lots of toys, favourite treats (make him work for them) and windowsills to sit on, he might moan but he will be fine.

Peanutssuck · 06/04/2022 21:13

No no no...definitely don't let him out until its healed

NewYearCalavicci · 06/04/2022 21:16

Definitely keep him in .
If your cat carrier is a very good one that he can't escape from you could put him in the garden for a bit so he can get some fresh air and watch the birdies.

My cat isn't allowed out because he's a thug so he has a cage that I put him out in

Beamur · 06/04/2022 21:17

I'd keep him in too. Good luck 😂

lljkk · 06/04/2022 21:24

stay in stay in

easy for me to say if he's whinging. Grit your teeth for now

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 06/04/2022 21:32

He definitely needs to stay in if he's injured and the wound is still healing.

Trinacham · 06/04/2022 21:45

No, it's not cruel to look after a pet.

Browncoo6 · 06/04/2022 21:48

Thanks everyone. I have kept him in for tonight, I totally forgot to ask the vet advice on the matter but will trust my judgment. He’s been feeling sorry for himself the past few days but the magical painkiller injection has cheered him right up it seems Grin

Here is the wound, it still looks super sore.

@Browncoo6 how is the poorly puss ?

Browncoo6 · 08/04/2022 20:23

He’s much better today Smile we’ve been keeping up with the metacam and he’s much more comfortable now although the wound still looks raw. I’ve let him have a sniff around the garage which is satisfying him for now Grin

Aw I am glad he is feeling a bit better.

I guess you will need to keep him for a while longer yet .
Have you ever had a harness on him ? I take mine out for a walk every now and then Smile

Fluffycloudland77 · 08/04/2022 21:35

That looks sore doesn’t it? Pity you can’t stick a plaster on a cat.
