What are you absolute must know tips and general advice on taking care of kittens/cats?

I've done a bit of research in to insurance, vet pet plan, basic necessities and different types of food so I'm aware of the basics I think!

Maybe offer to do as I said? Offer to get her neutered (take her yourself) instead of paying for the kittens? Poor cat - I hope she is looked after in other ways.

Seemingly she is well loved and looked after otherwise so doubt they'd part with her - just laziness and piss poor understanding of the importance of neutering by the sounds of it!

Oh, I meant to give her back! Just take her to get neutered (with their permission).

We originally wanted an older rescue to avoid this very situation but we've been waiting the best part of a year and nothing so this is bloody typical.

I've got in contact with our local PDSA and cats protection to get info about any discounts offered on neutering in our area to pass on to the owner with the hopes they'll follow it up.

Oh haha @YetAnotherSpartacus I thought you meant to re-home her 🤣

Am reading this thread because we are also considering getting a kitten (or 2) from a neighbour who “didn’t get round” to neutering her cat. And I’m really conflicted about it. She says she will be neutering the mother cat after this but she’s selling the kittens for £200 each so I can imagine that it would be tempting not to... I’d really much prefer to get a rescue but I’ve heard there aren’t many rescue cats around who are suitable for houses with small children. So I’m just in a bit of a dilemma.

Gutted to hear your story. In your situation I would probably pull out. Or offer to take cat to be neutered but I know from recent experience that would feel quite awkward!!

The kittens will still need rehoming! Don't disappoint your children and give those kittens a lovely home

EachandEveryone · 21/04/2022 15:50

Oh take the kittens and offer to take mum to be done. There must be somewhere doing it very discounted. God so many people are doing this. Yours are a bargain i know someone selling theirs for £300 each. Makes my blood boil.

Just to say we had no problems finding rescue kittens when we had small kids (last year). The kids were 7, 5 and 3.
The rescue place found a pregnant stray and we took two kittens. They were born in foster care and used to kids and cats from birth. They love our kids and are very friendly.
