Tracking cats

Do any of you use a collar camera or other device to track where your cats go? I'm super curious about where my youngest cat goes all day and I'll love to find out!

Picture attached because why not

We have a tractive tracker on our cat after he went missing for a couple of very stressful days. We know from it that he doesn’t travel far at all, he always goes to the same places and surprisingly favours the street in front of our house to the fields and woods behind it. This is via it mapping his routes on an app, no camera.

It’s reasonably accurate and we’ve been able to use it to find him a couple of times when we want to bring him in if we are going out for the evening. It does have an annoying habit of announcing he’s left the safe zone when he’s sat right in front of me in the house. Conversely it can also tell location accurately enough to let me know when he’s waiting at a different door to be let in than the one I expected.

Following because our world would stop turning if we lost a cat!!

Intrigued by AirTags mentioned on another thread atm.

Thanks for the recommendation Galliano. I'm put off by the ongoing subscription fees but otherwise it's just what I'm looking for.

Princess, that's the thread that inspired this one. I've never used an AirTag (or the Android equivalent, since I don't have an iPhone) but it sounded like they need to connect to WiFi to work. I couldn't see how that would work, even though people were saying they use Tags for their cats.

We've got a Tracktive tracker but don't use it very often. I need to cancel our subscription. I think it's too big. But then our cats are quite small as cats go. It looks like it's very heavy. They're used to wearing collars though so they don't seem to mind too much actually, maybe I'll put it back on tomorrow.
Ours just roam around half a dozen neighbouring gardens and sleep on our beds. Not nearly as exciting as we'd hoped.

I think most cats have their regular routines/patrol areas so I'd probably only need to track her for a few days. I'm just so curious because she disappears for hours (unlike the other two who just walk around the garden) and appears again from different directions, including dropping down from the roof Blush

Our cat is 6kg and appears unbothered by the tracker. He was missing due to nosing in an outhouse and getting locked in so iIdon’t think I’d ever risk not having it on even though I now know his routines. I paid for a couple of years at once (after a one month trial) and didn’t feel the price was that high. Definitely too sparsely populated where we are to rely on AirTags.
