Meowing - wobbly cat syndrome

My cat has that wobbly cat syndrome - can never remember the name for it.

He won't go to the toilet in his litter tray so I'm constantly having to clean up the floor. I'm 31 weeks pregnant so it's really not ideal. We have slippy tiles as well so I've nearly gone flying yet again this morning as he spilt his water bowl.

On top of that, he just constantly meows. It's non stop and for no reason. I'm really finding it hard and just no idea how I am going to manage with a baby now either in 2 months.

DH is adamant that he isn't being rehomed. What is hard is that although he is there he works 12 hour shifts 4/5 days a week so I'm constantly having to deal with the cat on my own it feels.

Is there a way to make it easier for him to get into the tray? It might be too high for him to manage it.

It's Cerebellar Hypoplasia, by the way. Most as they get older, learn to adapt to their abilities. And the talking to you is quite sweet.

On the practical side of things, are the accidents because he's struggling to get in the litter tray?

There was an episode of Jackson Galaxy where a cat had mobility issues so they made a litter tray out of a massive wooden tray-type thing with only three sides, so the cat just walked in to use it, and they had those rubber mats all around it so any litter was absorbed by them and could just be tossed back or swept up afterwards. A bit of a pain, but much easier than cleaning up accidents everyday.

You can also buy rubber backed/suction water bowls too, so that they're impossible to tip and spill. Put a tray or mat underneath so any spills from him drinking don't go directly on the floor.

How old is the cat? Other than the spills and accidents, does he have a good quality of life in general? Has he been seen by the vet to make sure he's on any appropriate medication?

He is 2.5 - he only seems to ahve got worse.

We've tried multiple different litter trays and can't get one that suits him. The one we have got at the moment he sometimes goes in - it's got raised sides and a lower bit to get on. He does fall out of it quite a lot when he does use it.

He gets attention from us etc but I worry about his quality of life. He falls a lot and will flop so he hits his head of floor, walls etc most days. As he doesn't use the litter tray it does mean that he is left in our kitchen if we are out or overnight.

Try those toddler bowls with suction cups on them. They are impossible to knock over. And try and work out what he's trying to tell you. One of mine is very vocal, but with a bit of detective work I can usually work out what she wants. Failing that. Talk back to him. Maybe he just wants a conversation.

Ah, my one is ten now and is probably the happiest cat around. He still falls over, off something like the floor when sitting down or fails to make the leap in the general direction of a surface at least ten times a day and lost all the points on his fangs from faceplanting into the window or floor. But he definitely prefers the back garden to litter trays and loves the fact we've given him little steps to be able to get up to some of his favourite places.

Try an enclosed tray with a lid, or properly high walls so he has some support.

He's so young and nothing you describe should be a reason to give up on him.
