Cats and houseplants as toilets !

So I have 2 cats , both around a year old and one of them (no idea which one) keeps pooing in my houseplants ! I’ve tried cocktail sticks , pebbles and shells to no avail as they just dig them out of the way . Both cats go outside so this happens about 3 times a month but it’s driving me crazy. Any ideas on plant friendly ideas to keep the moggies away ? (I’ve thought about moving the plants to a room they don’t go in but they are heavy pits so can’t really be moved )

My cat peed under the Christmas tree when we first took her in. I think you have to clean up so there is no remnant left, otherwise they associate the space with the toilet spot!

Have they got a cat flap? Our problem went away when the tree went down and we installed a cat flap

I am hoping you also have a litter tray inside as obviously one cat needs it. Based on that assumption what do you use in it, litter or wood pellets?

They are creatures of habit and will continue to try and use the pots because of the smell.

You need to break the habit. Scrape out the top layer of soil and spread it on the top of cat litter in their litter tray. Then cover up the plant pots completely, wrap with clingfilm and then some large blankets - whatever it takes to make it physically impossible for them to access the soil. Spray the plant area liberally with air freshener or perfume.

Hopefully they will get the message and start using the tray instead.
