What's wrong with my cat?

Sorry, here's a long one, but I didn't want to miss any details.
My indoor cat is just about to turn 16. At the start of 2021, he had a routine check-up that showed he was starting to have oral problems, but they just recommended getting a cat version of dentastix. We did that, as well as a powder that goes on the food to help clean the teeth.
A couple of months go by (now June/July), and he starts to barely eat. We took him back to the vet, who removed several teeth. It was like having a kitten again.
Come October, the poor old fella is barely eating again but also has sickness and diarrhoea. The vet put him on anti-sickness tablets. This worked while he was on them, but then he reverted back to being poorly. They tried a second round of the same tablets, and everything improved.
In January, he had his annual vaccinations.
Unfortunately, this month, we had to go away for a family funeral, and so the cat was put in the cattery. About a week later, he has two days of vomiting again. This stopped, but in the last three or four days, he's started eating less. He's just joined me at the computer where I'm working, and I can see one of his teeth is at an odd angle. It feels loose, and so I've booked him in with the vet for tomorrow morning.
Does anyone have any idea what could be going on? Could the sickness be linked with the teeth? I thought with the surgery last year, his teeth were now sorted. Could there be something more sinister lurking in the background? TIA

I don't think anyone on here will be able to tell you anything. I can't see how a loose tooth could be related to vomiting, but other than that it's impossible to say what might be wrong - particularly at his age. So seeing the vet is of course the right thing to do and I hope it turns out to be something that can be easily fixed.

Thank you. I suppose I was wondering more if anyone has had a similar experience or happens to know if there's a random link between the two. The poor thing has had to go to the vet for any illness until this last year

Hi cottonpyjamas.
I don't know of any link between the 2, but having a poorly cat myself I know the worry it can cause.
My cat had all his teeth out, apart from fangs and small front teeth, caused by calicivirus as a kitten. All I can say is he's never looked back, so if he has to have them all out he should be ok. My cat tackles anything now including biscuits.
I hope you get an answer soon.

Ps has the vet checked his kidneys, thyroid etc?

Thanks Yoyokitten. He had bloods taken prior to his operation last summer, but I don't know if they looked at kidneys and thyroid specifically. With the sickness in the autumn, the vet was trying to avoid any invasive checks unless necessary, hence the two courses of sickness tablets

That's understandable.
Bless him, your poor boy.
Hope he's better soon. We've just gone through 4 months of constant runs and weight loss with our cat. He had a nasty bug called chlostridium perfringens. It was very challenging to say the least.!

CottonPyjamas · 31/03/2022 07:02

I hope your cat is feeling better also

Thank you.
How is he now?

CottonPyjamas · 03/04/2022 10:03

@Yoyokitten

Thank you. How is he now?
Thanks for asking. He's okay. It's resorption, and the vet pulled the tooth with her fingers there and then. She thinks everything is simply due to his old age
