Help please - Hairball or possibly blockage?

One of our cats has been eating a bit less than usual lately, but on Friday she stopped eating altogether and has been really lethargic since yesterday morning. She vomited a few times on Friday but only liquid came up.
She's a long-haired cat who detests brushing so we have an ongoing issue with hairballs. She's had something similar before and it was a hairball.

I took her to vet's yesterday who gave her an anti-sickness injection and some katalax to take at home. The vet said if she vomits again should contact their out of hours service as it could be a blockage.

This morning there's no improvement. She's still very lethargic and just lies down in one spot. No vomiting since Friday though.

Not sure what to do? Thinking of contacting the out of hours when they open a but later.

Anyone have experience of a blockage, what were the symptoms?

So glad she is ok.

Presumably you already use the malt paste and anti hair ball kibble?

Nort sure I would like to see the evicted hairball either, seen enough of them on my carpet to know what they look like! They were worried of possible perforation, suppose that's why they were talking about having to possibly remove some of the intestine. Luckily it wasn't needed.

I'm just waiting for an update now to see if she's come around properly after the GA, she was still quite drowsy when I spoke to the vet. Hoping I might be able to pick her up today but guess it depends on how she's doing. I'm sure she'd rather be at home as well than sleep on a copy of the Mail or similar!

How many surgeries have your cats had already? Will look into anti hairball diets and pastes and all sorts, certainly wouldn't want this to become a frequent thing!

So glad she's ok OP and it was something relatively straightforward. Hope she's home soon Thanks

I'd be very interested in a fur ball thread for nervous cats as mine is forever throwing them up but hates being groomed.

Could you have her shaved short under sedation? Would this reduce the length of the hairs being eaten as well as the amount?

@Fluffycloudland77

That’s a lot of fur isn’t it? You can buy cat muzzles but that still leaves their razor sharp claws.

Our Persians breeder used to have leather gauntlets for doing her cats.

My previous groomer used to have a ball thing that she'd put over Maia's head If she was getting a bit feisty. It worked a treat.

@EatYourFive my two have had at least 4 surgeries each. We now know what to look out for and instantly ring the vet for them to go in.

Girl cat had such a huge build up of gas behind the blockage that during her last surgery she stank out the surgery and they had to evacuate!! The embarrassment…

she’s such a dainty wee thing too!Blush
