How to stop Siamese kitten from biting and scratching me

I've a 12 week old siamese kitten, most of the time he's adorable, but first thing in the morning and at bedtime he goes crazy and has started leaping at my legs whilst I'm walking around or at my head/face when I'm in bed. He's not aggressive, he's just playing, but he does hurt me and I'm worried he'll scratch my face. I'm not sure how to teach him it's not acceptable. I've had a siamese before, I know they're a handful, but my last one was slightly older and not as wild.

He has lots of toys and I play with him throughout the day, throwing his toys for him to fetch etc. I don't encourage him to play with my hands.

I'm just not sure how to discourage this behaviour. Should I hiss at him like a cat would? Say no?

I didn't sleep well last night and he's just almost reduced me to tears this morning, obsessed with jumping on my head in bed Blush

I’ve got a harness for him and took him in the garden yesterday for an hour, he was worn out afterwards, so had a little peace!

Jackson Galaxy is a cat whisperer. He's brilliant and has a TV program. I strongly suggest that you check out his website for advice.

Thanks, I’ll have a look.

Can anyone recommend really good interactive toys?

Is this your first Siamese though? They aren’t like moggies.

Imherenowandthen · 14/04/2022 13:22

No I’ve had a Siamese before, and also Balinese. He’s more extreme than they were though. I love their temperament, it’s just the biting I need to stop.

He must be quite a force of nature if he’s hard work for you then. He’s taken the Siamese reputation and is off running down the road with it.

Thanks, good to know it’s not just me! I’ve had many cats over the years, none this bad. I’ve tried bopping his nose gently, blowing on his face, hissing at him, pushing him over but it all seems part of the game to him

Sounds like youthful exuberance more than anything. Just keep plugging away with him. He should calm down a bit in time, and you'll find something that deters him eventually.

He's a handsome wee fella btw Smile

I haven’t had a siamese but when my cat goes too far in play and bites / scratches I respond like a cat would, with either an angry hiss or angry yowl and he stops instantly. Works much better than any human word.

Imherenowandthen · 14/04/2022 14:08

Yes I’m trying to hiss at him too, sometimes it works, sometimes not!
