Dcat tooth/teeth extraction

MrCat is having a canine out on Monday, plus descaling and any other teeth out that may be discovered to need extracting. General anaesthetic.

What do I need to know when I pick him up again in the afternoon? What should I expect or look out for? Anything I should buy this weekend?

He generally has free access outside. Should I keep him in afterwards? For how long?

And will he still be able to hunt, kill and eat the little beasts he catches in the garden?

Obviously I will ask the vet as well, but Mumsnet is, well, Mumsnet.

My cat had 2 teeth out. I'll never forget him staggering out of his cat basket afterwards like a drunk on a big night out. He just needed peace and quiet, food, water, litter tray and bed close by. He didn't really use the litter tray normally, but I did keep him in for the rest of the day and overnight so he needed it. He was right as ninepence the next day and much happier without a toothache!

They recover very quickly and can eat normally after surgery but one thing I would recommend is asking your vet about the cause of the decay. If your cat has underlying gum disease or gingervitis its usually best to remove all the teeth in the affected area rather than just the worst offenders as it saves from future surgery down the line (speaking as someone who has worked in animal rescue so seen this A LOT)

Oh dear. He doesn't have a bed: he sleeps on the sofa, or my tummy, or for preference on dd's hi-sleeper bunk. I don't see a groggy drunk getting up to the top bunk!

Mine had a few out a month ago and needs to go back for part two. Sulked for a day then forgave me, had to give soft food and even use warm water to soften biscuits. Needed an antibiotic at check up but otherwise recovered well and is13. Hope he forgives me again next month
