Post Surgery Behaviour

My beautiful boy had to have a lump removed from his throat this morning. The vet wasn't sure what is was, so we decided to remove it and it's being sent off for analysis. (It looks like it might have been a cyst and not a tumour 🤞🏻)

I know post-surgery cats can be withdrawn, but he has hidden himself away completely since I got him home (1pm) and he is also running away from me when I try to see if he is okay too.

I guess I am just looking for some reassurance that this is normal and that he will eventually come out when he is ready. I keep crying as I know he is in pain and I feel so bad that I've put his through this.

Does anyone have any experience of how their cat reacted after a big operation like this?

He'll be OK. Did the vet give him a long lasting painkiller? Some cats do withdraw following vet visits, especially operations. Is he eating and/or drinking? This is important. Give him a little bit of time to recover and just reassure him with your voice. If you find that he doesn't start to get back to normal today, call the vet and ask for their opinion. Don't upset yourself, he'll come through itFlowers

Thanks for responding @Want2beme. He is looking a bit better today, he has eaten too, which I am happy about. He still hides from me when I go to see him, but I assume he thinks I'm going to take him back to the vet.
He has been given a long lasting painkiller, so at least I don't have to try and get tablets into him.
I know he is just needing time to recover, it's just horrible seeing them like that and not being able to really help.
I appreciate you taking time to reply to me, thanks Smile

Glad he's on the mend. He'll forgive you, eventuallyGrin

They can be very skittish post vets/surgery. He will come round.
