Cat acne

For ages weve thought Dcat just had a grubby chin as he does like exploring outside, he's just asleep upside down on my lap so it's allowed me to look a bit closer and do some googling and I've discovered he's suffering from cat acne!
It's 100% this based on photos and descriptions. Has anyone had experience of treating this? Was it possible to treat at home or best to head to the vets? (He's registered at the local vets and insured)
Thanks

My old boy got this - we switched their plastic water fountain for a ceramic one and it didn't reoccur.
I'd suggest ditching any plastic food or water bowls (ceramic is best, steel are also OK although some cats dislike them).
You can bathe it with cooled boiled water and salt but if it becomes inflamed or there is any discharge suggesting an infection, then definitely see the vet.

One of our cats had this.
I didn't know what it was so took her to the vet, who didn't do much except say that it was likely something that she would have forever.

However, I got some gauze pads (which are a little abrasive) and some warm salt water and gently rubbed the affected area under her chin.

It all disappeared after a few days and never returned.

(I can't actually remember how many times I treated her, it definitely wasn't much- maybe just twice.. It bled a bit but she wasn't too bothered by me doing it.)

Thanks @AwkwardPaws27, his biscuits and water bowls are ceramic but he does have wet food in a plastic bowl so will make sure to get another ceramic one.

Sorry @winesolveseverything only just saw your reply, that's good to hear, I'm hoping it's a quick fix for him, I haven't noticed him scratching it much so hopefully we've caught it early enough
