Do you think cats know?

Random one but i have two cats - one has always been friendly, sleeps with me, loves cuddles etc. The other one has ever really been bothered for any kind of interaction. However, since I found out I am pregnant he has not left me alone. He cries all the time for attention, rubs his face against mine, actually purs when I touch him. It's got me thinking, Does he know?! Can he sense that changes are happening?

I think they can smell hormones. He will probably be appalled by the actual baby Grin

ClariceQuiff · 11/03/2022 19:05

They have a very sensitive sense of smell, so can probably smell the changes brought about by your different hormones in pregnancy.

NutellaEllaElla · 11/03/2022 19:08

In addition to the above, I wonder if they can hear the extra heartbeat but then would they know what that means? I dunno, why should they ...

Hahaha I'm sure he will be! He's appalled by most things, that's why this is such a surprise 😂

Our girl cat suddenly became very, very affectionate both times I was pregnant. She followed me everywhere and would lick my stomach for hours given the opportunity. I’d wake up to find her just watching me sleep. She died a few weeks after we had our last child. I like to think she held on to make sure everything was ok with our baby. She was the sweetest little cat.

Definitely. It’s one of the reasons I knew I was pregnant the second time even though my first test was negative. The cat was exactly the same with me as he was with my first!

Yep my feline overlords became very friendly. They were curious at the baby stage and took full advantage of toddler stage to cause mischief togetherGrin they now sit patiently at end of his bed to be read a bedtime story. They have junior well trained

I think some can. When I was pregnant with my first we had a rescue cat that hadn't been affectionate with me but started to sit beside me or lie on my bump. Once the baby was born she returned to her normal couldn't give a shit attitude Grin.
