If one cat has stitches, is the other cat a problem?

Hello, have two kittens - boy and girl aged just 5 months. Girl is being spayed tomorrow (took a while to find a vet that would do it). I am aware a cone or recovery suit might be needed to protect her stitches.

Is there anything we should do to stop the other cat from licking her stitches? I guess the recovery suit would be the best opton. They do groom each other a bit. I am reluctant to keep them apart because they get really upset, but will if she have to.

I feel quite nervous and wish I could reassure her as she'll be so scared,

We've just been through this, although both kittens female and spayed at the same time. The cones of shame lasted, oooh, three minutes so they both had suits and actually they've worked surprisingly well.

The Naughtiest Kitten - who is very feisty - pulled her stitches running around too much and so had a few days bed rest in a cage and is still in her suit and surprisingly compliant...

One of my cats bit the other cat’s stitches out once. I’d keep an eye on them.

I'd keep an eye on them, definitely. A suit is good for preventing them licking the stitches but mine ripped hers out when her and her brother decided to play chase HmmGrin

Ours each had their recovery suit off within hours.
In the end, I used appropriate diameter tubi- grip, cut to size with leg holes. Worked really well.

Another thing to be aware of is that she will smell different when she comes home so boy cat's behaviour might change and be aggressive towards her.

We have sister cats who are 8 this year, and when they were 6, 1 had dental treatment and when she came home, her sister went wild, chasing after her, hissing and attacking her. We had to keep them in separate rooms and slowly reintroduce them. And they'd been together from the same litter!

Thanks for the info everyone. Good to be prepared that they might not recognise either other too.

My son has boy / girl kittens and the boy is being done next month hopefully and we are going to put him in a big cage for a few days . Can I ask why you’ve chosen to have the girl done first ?
