Where do you keep the litter tray?

Any ideas where we could put our cat’s litter tray? It’s a terraced house and at the moment it’s in the kitchen/diner so not ideal. The hall way is too narrow and the downstairs loo too small.

3 cats, house over 3 floors. One goes out but we have to let him in/out, another is elderly and senile.

Trays

  • in main living/kitchen/dining space by the back door (it’s not actually next to anything food related as it’s a broken plan space)
  • in front hall near the front door
  • one on first floor in my study
  • one on second floor in the “guest” bathroom

I’d rather not have the downstairs ones where they are, I tried having just one under the stairs, but old lady cat thinks doorways are where you toilet, so if we don’t put the trays handy, she’ll just poop by the door anyway.

Btw, ha ha ha and cats not “being allowed” upstairs! How on earth do you manage that.

Ours aren't allowed upstairs at night or unattended through the day - we have a door at the bottom of the stairs and just shut it lol.

We have two in the cupboard under the stairs, the stairs go across the house in the middle room so its not a problem to leave the door slightly ajar. We have considered putting a cat flap in it but never got round to it.

Yep living room door kept closed at all times.

and we never sneak them upstairs for bedtime snuggles when he is at work

Ah if your stairs have doors fair enough.

In the bathroom/upstairs loo. Cat and I have pretty much synchronised our bladders.

Ours is in the downstairs loo. One litter tray, one cat. I heard you should have 2 but she seems happy with one.

She has no shame and will use the tray while I am on the loo if she needs to go🙈

Despite having access to outdoors, she always comes in to wee and poo.

One of mine does this. She follows me in and sits in the tray and stares up at me. Sometimes she doesn't even wee... she just pretends to!

Both upstairs - one on the first floor corridor and one on the top floor corridor (small tall house!) The cats see upstairs as a safe space - they alternate between sleeping on the spare bed or my bed - so the litter trays are conveniently close for them, and out of the way of visitors.

3 cats and 2 trays, by the front door as there's not other room, tend to find if I pop it in the bathroom I stand on chucked out litter in bare feet Envy
I may go back to using two plastic storage boxes under a coffee table(in the hall) as no one actually noticed they were there and less litter spillage.
Front door is the best as I live in a flat so only go there if going in or out as there's no rooms or stairs to use throughout the day and there's a window, always helps Grin

In the understairs cupboard, we removed the lock/handle and they can ‘paw’ the door open when they need to use it.

In the bathroom!
