Can anyone recommend a brand of wood pellets

Very excited to be getting a kitten in March. I want to use wood pellets as this is what the kitten is using at the moment.
Can anyone recommend a particular brand/shop or tell me which to avoid.
Saw some for £5.99 for 30l in The Range but no reviews. Wondering if that’s too cheap and better to spend more for better quality.

Pets at Home own brand. £7 something for 30 L. I wouldn't use anything else.

Pets at Home do a slightly cheaper one, which is a different brand, and about the same price as the one you saw in The Range. It's Ok but not as good as the Pets at Home own brand one. It seems to go dusty more quickly and is generally just not quite as good. It's still perfectly serivceable though.

I always go for Pets at Home own brand. I've used Sainsbury's as well and that's fine, probably more expensive.

ThievesTemple · 17/02/2022 14:06

Thanks, I’ll try Pets at Home one.

Can I ask how you store it, do you keep it in its bag?
I was thinking of getting a plastic storage box and emptying it in.

I keep it in it's bag. But then I get through at least 60 L a week (for around 35 cats on average), so I'm not the best person to ask:)

Oko plus.

Also use pets at homes brand of wood pellets. I have a large maine coon and the tray has no smell when he has done a wee, its really easy to scoop out as well.

Calcifur · 17/02/2022 16:12

I buy the smaller bag of it and keep it in the bag. It means I can pour it out. If you decant it into a box you'll want some sort of big scoop for getting it into the tray I imagine.

Allergictoironing · 17/02/2022 18:41

I use the Pets at Home own brand too. I leave it in the bag and it seems fine for weeks - presumably because it's either in the house or conservatory. Doubt I would if it was kept in a damp shed outside

StarCat2020 · 17/02/2022 18:44

Another thing is if you step on one of the pellets it doesn't hurt whereas standing on the stony cat litter is almost as bad as standing on Lego

ThievesTemple · 17/02/2022 19:08

Thanks, seems Pets at Home is most popular.

Will buy a bag and see what I think about storage, agree I’ll need a scoop for it, hadn’t thought of that.

I use pets at home but also the bags from B&M which I find are just as good. Roughly the same price I think, A bag lasts me forever as my cats are outdoors. I do remember the other brand from pets at home to be quite dusty though as others have said.

Flockameanie · 18/02/2022 23:17

Our kitten came with a bag of the Pets at Home stuff, which we'll carry on using. No smells (although he's also raw fed, so I think that helps) and it's been pretty easy to use so far. We scoop poops first and last thing daily and give it a shake out. Then change litter completely once a week.

We keep it under the stairs in the bag, sealed with a clothes peg, where we also keep the scoop.

cataline · 18/02/2022 23:30

We use the £5.99 bags from B&M and they're very good.

£5.99 is cheap

Pets at home wooden pellets are £6.99 for 30l and they are good

I use the pets at home ones, buy a huge bag every few weeks. We store them in an IKEA box www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/sortera-waste-sorting-bin-with-lid-white-70255899/ and use a random plastic jug that we had.
We did used to use liners for the litter tray but realised the cats were weenie against the sides and it was leaking via the liner! Now we don’t bother, and completely empty the tray about every 4 days (we put 2 litres of pellets in when we change it) - but remove poo daily. We have 2 cats.

ThievesTemple · 19/02/2022 07:56

Thanks, our kitten is also fed a raw diet so hoping this helps.

I like the look of that ikea storage, plenty of space for the 30l bag so might just go with that option.

Will give both pets at home and then b&m a try and see if I notice any difference.

I wasn’t planning on using any liners, but would put the tray in bath for a scrub once a week to keep it fresh.
