Any potential issues I should look out for?

Hello!

I am adopting a beautiful 1 year old boy tomorrow.

I also have a stray cat the visits often for food and a stroke, I feed him in the garden as he won't come in to the house past the hallway.

He has been coming since I moved here around 9 months ago (definitely a stray tried the paper collar to see if he had a home)

My beautiful boy is being collected tomorrow evening, he's an outdoor cat and will be kept indoors for the first couple of weeks to get used to his new surroundings, he is being re-homed due to needing to be the only cat in the household.

Could I run in to any issues here?

Thanks

Ime could go either way. My dd has 2 young dcats and they adore a visiting huge black unneutered Tom! Aren't interested in any of the others that come a calling!! There are 8 dcats in her cul de sac!! And the huge black one!
They let him in to share their food!

Thank you for your reply!

Sounds like they maybe fancy Mr Tom cat 😁

A couple more questions now he's home, and settling in very well!

He is an outdoor cat, how long should I wait before letting him out and about? I know the first few times I'll be worrying like mad wondering if he'll find his way back.

Should I still keep his litter tray when he's back out?

He is settling in very well. Loving being petted, roams around the house looking in all the rooms, chills on the sofa/beds purring happily and dozing although will sometimes suddenly seem nervous and run away to hide somewhere so any tips to make him feel more at home are appreciated.

Keep the tray, keep him in 3 weeks 4 if you can.

Hopefully they’ll get on or stray boy will be hungry.

I'd be slightly concerned that the stray may have FIV, and could pass it onto your cat if they get into a scrap over the garden.

Have you taken the stray to be scanned for a chip?

Is the stray neutered? Is your cat neutered? Unneutered cats are more likely to have/catch FIV.

If your new cat needs to be an only cat, is it a good idea to bring him into a home with a regular cat visitor?
