Sodding vet collar - help

My kittens have just been neutered, and sent home in fetching plastic collars. One of them has managed to get out of it twice in under an hour. Any tips? Can we buy ones that won't be so easy to escape? She is absolutely tiny so her head is clearly able to slip out quite quickly.

You can get romper suit things, or if you can 'sew', you can adjust a t-shirt or ideally a baby onesie.

Mine was so traumatised by the cone that she wedged herself between the toilet and the wall and hadn’t eaten or drank anything for over 12 hours so I actually just took it off.

You can buy ones with Velcro. Google cushion cat cone. Pets at home & Amazon have them.

We have just had a fab one from amazon. When we took her to the vets to have the stitches out they were impressed with it. It was comfy for her and she never managed to get out of it. We went for the size small and she had it on the smallest setting.

They really don't need collars.

None of my female cats have ever had collars and their wounds have always healed just fine. However if you're worried, you can use baby onesies to stop them bothering the wound, but you may find they just ignore it.

We tried no collar with our cat and she would not leave the stitches alone. Kept pulling them and trying to clean them and then would squeal when she pulled them.

We tried a onesie and it traumatised her more than the cone!

@ItsSnowJokes inflatable collars are much kinder than the big plastic ones. I think it's horrible to put such huge things on cats lol.

Thanks, everyone. My small children were really upset that they might make themselves poorly so I called the vet, and now have the female kitten in a coat (which she can't balance in yet so is lying on her back like an upside-down beetle), and the male kitten with a bright blue bottom. I'll see how he's doing at the two-day check, and if it looks like he's bothering his bottom too much, I'll get him one of the soft ones posted above.

The nurse did say they were both impressively unbothered by having had ops not long before. One tried to break into the sharps bin and the other lay in the sink.

The soft collar above looks amazing. When our little one was neutered they sent her back with a coat and a collar! The cost to stop our other cat grooming the main wound and a collar as she also had inflamed front paws from the drip (in both legs).

The picture shows her stance. She was so unhappy, she just moped around and refused to lift her head for a few days. Every time we took the collar off for a few moments she went straight to lick the wounds and ended up on antibiotics. It was heartbreaking to see her so depressed but there wasn’t a lot of choice.

I was lucky with my 2 girls. Neither touched their stitches so were fine to have their collars off. I tried an inflatable but they hated that too.

Aw, poor cat. My pair have now totally perked up thankfully, and no cones for now.

Glad yours have perked up!

I took off my kitten's plastic cone as she hated it and she then got an infection from licking her wound and had to go on antibiotics. I couldn't find a bodysuit to fit - I had two which were too big and she wriggled out of them in an impressively houdini-like way. (There was a further one which was too small to get over her tummy). I then ended up with a cloth collar, which I tied with a very firm knot - and it stayed on!! She still wasn't happy.
