Help - peeing cat

We rescued Boy Cat (5) and Girl Cat (4) back in the summer. They have always been great with their litter trays although on occasion both have peed in the bath. Recently Girl Cat has been peeing in the bath more frequently despite one of their 2 trays being right beside the bath.

I'm the last 10 days her peeing has been more frequent. She peed on clothes on the chair in my bedroom twice, some shopper bags in the hall, a black bag sitting by the front door and then this morning she peed on a throw on my bed while I was in it!

It's always small amounts, it doesn't smell bad (which worries me that she's peed elsewhere and I can't tell) but it's now out of control. I'm going to have to shut them in the kitchen at night which they will be so unhappy about as the each sleep on mine and my daughters beds at night usually.

They are indoor cats who go for a harness walk in the morning if they choose to do so. It's 50/50 if Girl Cat goes out, she doesn't like rain or cold.

I've got an online appointment with a cat behaviourist this afternoon and I'm going to phone the vets when they open to get them to test her urine but does anyone have any other suggestions? I can't deal with a peeing cat and constantly closing doors behind me, we live in a small flat so it's impossible to keep this up.

I think you need to rule out a health complaint so a trip to the vet is advisable and it's good that you've got one booked. If it isn't health related then it's likely behavioural and you could try a Feliway plug in as she may be stressed. Also how many litter boxes do they have and what type of litter are you using? She may need more boxes or different litter so it's worth trying that too.

This is a classic symptom of cystitis. She needs to see a vet. I wouldn't bother with anything else until that has been ruled out.

It definitely smells OP. I think you must’ve just gone “nose blind” to it. You’re right to be concerned that there might be a lot more of it around.
Do they have to be indoor cats?

Oh and the fact it's small amounts makes me certain its cystitis. Vet tomorrow and don't bother with the behaviourist at the moment.

Vet confirmed it's a urine infection. For the princely sum of £111 she was returned to me with a weeks course of antibiotics and 3 days of anti inflammatory medication.

Thankfully no more peeing incidents (so far) and although she's sleeping lots and is quite lethargic she's still being affectionate and eating and drinking so hopefully she's on the mend 🤞🏼

Put her on Cystease, it’s a palatable powder you mix in their wet food and really helps prevent cystitis.

I'll look into that, thanks @Fluffycloudland77
