Sick kitten

Not a tiny kitten but 5 months old, he's started going out side the last week or 2.

Yesterday I noticed he didn't eat.

Last night he puked a few times and today he's not eating his food again.
Plus, I'm not sure whether it's truly possible for a cat to look sad, but if it is possible, he definitely looks sad

I know cats puke, and I've seen him eating random plants outside. How long do I wait before I wait before I really worry and call the vet?

In the morning he's usually all over us, purring and saying hello but now he isn't.

I'd get him seen today if you can. Just to be on the safe side. He is absolutely gorgeous. Love his stripes!

Fluffycloudland77 · 23/01/2022 14:48

When they go off food it’s time for the vets.

TiffanyAchingsHatFullofSky · 23/01/2022 15:22

He's at the vets being sedated for scans and X-rays.

My poor boy ☹️

Poor boy indeed, fingers crossed for you both.

Mumdiva99 · 23/01/2022 15:42

He is gorgeous. I hope he's OK.

TiffanyAchingsHatFullofSky · 23/01/2022 16:35

They can see a red string type of thing in his stomach that has been partly digested into his intestines, so now it's a full on operation.

Thank God for pet insurance.

Yoyokitten · 23/01/2022 16:39

Poor boy, hope he's ok. Keep us posted

Wolfiefan · 23/01/2022 16:41

Oh bloody hell OP. Hope it all goes smoothly and he is home and well again very soon.

Fluffycloudland77 · 23/01/2022 16:46

Oh lord. At least you got him there before it cheese wired his intestines.

No wonder he looked sad.

@Fluffycloudland77

Oh lord. At least you got him there before it cheese wired his intestines.

No wonder he looked sad.

We don't know if we have got there quick enough for that, or for severe bunching of the intestines.

Fingers crossed we have got there before either of those have occurred.

I keep looking around the house, wondering what he could have eaten.

Xmas decoration?

Your poor chap.

TiffanyAchingsHatFullofSky · 23/01/2022 22:39

It was a ribbon that I didn't even know existed.

It was in his stomach, through his small intestine, through his large intestine and in his colon.

All the way down.

They had to make an incision in the stomach, the small and the large intestine.

No cheese wiring of the intestine though, thank God.
I just hope he is ok in the vets over night, poor thing.

Oh my goodness poor him. And poor you, OP. That must be an awful shock.

I hope he does well overnight and is back with you soon.

Fluffycloudland77 · 24/01/2022 08:53

He might have picked it up from outside.

Mumdiva99 · 24/01/2022 09:11

Blimey poor thing. Thank goodness you took him to the vets. Fingers crossed his recovery is smooth..

Logoplanter · 24/01/2022 13:05

Hope he's ok.

This thread has just spurred me on to get my pet insurance sorted - I've been meaning to do it for the last week and I've now just done it.

felinelucky · 24/01/2022 13:08

What rotten luck, OP, poor little mite. Thank heavens you were quick to act. Please keep us posted on his progress.

YukoandHiro · 24/01/2022 13:13

Poor thing! Glad he's had his op and hope he recovers quickly. He has beautiful stripes.

Francescaisstressed · 24/01/2022 13:14

Aww bless. You did the right thing and glad he's getting sorted. How is he today?

Floralnomad · 24/01/2022 13:16

How is he today @TiffanyAchingsHatFullofSky , is he able to come home yet ?

TiffanyAchingsHatFullofSky · 24/01/2022 19:23

He's home but looking very sad and still not eating.
He did eat at the vets and he's receptive to being stroked (although not purring) and he's curled into a ball to have a comfy sleep, so some things have improved a little bit.

He's wearing a baby vest type of thing, to protect his tummy/wounds. Which is mightily pissed off about. The vet said he may be sulking because of that more than anything else.

So just keeping a very close eye on him.

There’s a vet on here who swears by rotisserie chicken from the supermarket for cats who won’t eat.

He looks lovely in his vest, it’s his colour.
